One ongoing subject my husband and I fuss about is my ever-shedding hair. We find it in the bathroom, tub drains, in the fridge, and just generally all over the damn house. I’m pretty surprised that I don’t have a bald head by now due to the amount of hair I shed daily.
I don’t entirely blame him for being frustrated with my ever-shedding hair being all over the place. My lifestyle is pretty busy, and sometimes I rush out of the house without adequately sweeping up my hair on the floor. And the times I do a sweep but tend not to get all the hair off the floor completely.
In this article, I’m going to share with you how I was able to keep all my floors hair-free. All without changing my grooming routine or lifting a finger to sweep. It saved my marriage (kidding).
If you wanted to, you could always scroll right to the bottom to find the answer. So I won’t be mean and keep you in suspense until the end of the article.
Here’s the answer!
Robot vacuums can almost eliminate the routine of sweeping
Using a robot vacuum is the most effective way to keep human and pet hair off of tile, hardwood, carpet, and other types of flooring. Many popular robot vacuum brands come with scheduled cleaning. This feature almost eliminates the routine of sweeping floors. Emptying the robot vacuum debris tray and providing necessary maintenance is essential to the performance and longevity of the robot vacuum.
Most entry-level robot vacuums will pick up human and pet hair just fine. But not all are designed to stop the act of hair getting tangled in the rollers. Hair getting trapped in the roller can cause serious maintenance issues for your bot. And impact the performance of your robot vacuum. Also, it will increase the amount of weekly maintenance you must provide.
Bots that can handle hair
With the advancement of technology, robot vacuums are performing almost as well as traditional human-operated vacuums.
After owning a robot vacuum for several years, I have witnessed the improvement in technology.
Because of new designs, more of the debris goes into the internal dust bin, and less gets stuck in the vacuum’s rollers.
Some models like iRobot Roomba s9+ amazed me because it has deep carpet cleaning ability! And can pull up to 90% of the dirt out of the carpet based on user testing.
I didn’t think robot vacuums could deep clean carpets. But after running the iRobot Roomba s9+ over my rugs, I’ve seen pretty amazing results.
I’m assuming the fantastic results is due to the upgraded suction power combined with a closer to the ground brush design. Which might explain the significant amount of debris it removes even when the carpet looks visually clean. Kudos iRobot for making me believe that robot vacuums can now actually replace traditional hand-operated vacuums.
Important parts and maintenance
Most mid-level robot vacuums will free you from the task of sweeping. But no matter which brand you get, they all require regular maintenance. If you want your robot vacuum to keep a high level of performance, it is incredibly vital to keep the rollers and axles free of hair, string, and other fibers.
With the iRobot Roomba s9+ roller design, it does an excellent job at vacuuming up human and pet hair with very minimal hair remaining on the rollers. But you still get some that get caught in the axles, which is very easy to clean. The rollers pop right out, and it takes a few seconds to remove hair from the axle.
If you ever run into a situation where you have a malfunctioning part, don’t fret. You can quickly get replacement parts directly from the manufacturer or places like Amazon.
Mobile application
Most of the robot vacuums work with a mobile application. You could do things like setting your cleaning schedule, map locations of the house you want to vacuum, and check the health of your device.
The application will also notify you when the dirt bin needs to be emptied or any other maintenance issues the robot vacuum is experiencing.
Remote control
Here’s another fantastic feature I love when I’m not home and have unexpected guests stopping by my place after. You can remotely set your vacuum to start cleaning VIA, an app on your mobile phone. This can be done from anywhere, even if you’re outside of the country. As long as you have an internet connection.
Cleaning underneath furniture
No more lifting or moving your sofa or bed to clean underneath it. With the low to the floor design, your robot vacuum can go underneath your bed, sofas and other furniture with ease. I would recommend that your furniture be at least 6 – 7 inches off the ground to accommodate most robot vacuums to pass underneath freely.
If you have furniture that’s too low for the robot vac to go underneath, I recommend changing the legs or adding padding to the legs to create enough hight so that the vacuum can freely go underneath. This is a game-changer and worth the extra effort to have under your furniture always clean!
Conclusion
Owning a robot vacuum will not eliminate human intervention in the cleaning process. But it comes pretty darn close to eliminating the need for sweeping your floors. Proper maintenance is essential to keep your bot running well. I love the fact that I don’t have to worry about sweeping the hair off my floors ever again. Now I can allocate the time I would have spent sweeping towards something more beneficial to my life.
