Due to damaging past cleaning equipment, I’ve become very cautious when using off-brand cleaning products in my robot mops. Because I’ve only used water or branded cleaning solutions in my Braava Jet, it runs perfectly after two years of use. It works so well, in fact, I’ve given it to a family member, and I’ve upgraded.

Key Takeaways:

While it’s tempting to reach for whatever cleaning solution you have on hand, it’s important to use only the recommended cleaning solutions with your Braava jet. This will help ensure that your device is functioning at its best and that your floors are getting the proper care they need.

Read on to learn more about which cleaning solutions are suitable for Braava Jet and more.

Approved Cleaning Solutions For The Braava Jet

2.Clorox Ready MopCheck The Current Price
3.Bona Hardwood Floor CleanerCheck The Current Price
4.Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner.Check The Current Price

Apart from the above-mentioned cleaning solutions, just water is always acceptable.

It’s best to use the official Braava Jet cleaning solution because it is designed specifically to be used with Braava Jet. However, we understand that it is not always possible to use the official cleaning solution for reasons such as the non-availability of the product in your locality.

In such a case, the recommended non-branded cleaning solutions are the Clorox ready mop and Bona surface cleaners.

iRobot, the manufacturer of the Braava Jet robot mop, also recommends not using certain items as cleaning solutions in their device, including:

 • Lysol
 • Ammonia
 • Bleach
 • Vinegar
 • Pine-Sol
 • Essential Oils
 • Mr. Clean

Here’s why it might be time to upgrade your robot vacuum or mop:

Robot vacuums have gone through another technological advancement. The latest robot vacuums in the market will do more than vacuum. They can now mop, empty themselves, and even clean their own mopping pad. It has been a game-changer in my household!

Time is the most valuable resource and the one thing you cannot buy. Every second that goes by will never be seen again! The more autonomous robot vacuums are, the more time you can spend doing the things you love.

Can You Use Bona In Braava Jet?

Bona is a trusted brand of hardwood floor cleaners that is safe to use with the Braava jet. Simply dilute the Bona cleaning solution according to the instructions on the bottle, and use it with the wet mopping pad on your Braava jet.

It’s important to follow the instructions on the bottle to ensure that you are using the correct concentration of cleaning solution. Using the wrong concentration of solution could potentially damage your Braava jet or leave residue on your floors.

Bona cleaning products are specifically formulated for use on hardwood floors. They are gentle on your floors, yet tough on dirt and grime.

Can You Use Vinegar In Braava Jet?

While vinegar is a natural and effective cleaner, it is generally not recommended for use in the Braava jet. This is because vinegar can be too acidic for some surfaces, and could potentially damage or corrode the internal components of your Braava jet.

Additionally, vinegar can leave behind a strong, lingering smell that some people may find unpleasant.

Can You Use Pine Sol In Braava Jet?

While Pine-Sol is a powerful cleaning solution that is effective at removing dirt, grime, and stains from a variety of surfaces, it is not specifically formulated for use in the Braava jet.

There are other cleaning solutions on the market (as discussed earlier) that are specifically formulated for use with this device and are likely to be safer and more effective.

Maintenance And Care Of The Braava Jet, Including Cleaning Solution Usage

As the proud owner of a Braava jet, you know how convenient and effective this cleaning device can be.

But like any machine, your Braava jet requires regular maintenance and care to keep it running smoothly.

One key aspect of maintaining your Braava jet is using the right cleaning solutions.

The Braava jet comes with three types of pads: a wet mopping pad, a damp sweeping pad, and a dry sweeping pad. Each of these pads is designed to be used with a specific type of cleaning solution.

For the wet mopping pad, you should use a cleaning solution that is specifically designed for wet mopping. These solutions are typically made with a mixture of water and a cleaning agent and are formulated to be safe for use on most hard surfaces.

Some examples of approved cleaning solutions for the wet mopping pad include the Braava jet Hard Floor Cleaning Solution.

The damp sweeping pad is designed for use with a cleaning solution that is slightly less concentrated.

Finally, the dry sweeping pad does not require the use of any cleaning solution. It is designed to pick up dust, dirt, and debris from your floors without the use of any liquids.

It’s important to use the correct cleaning solution for each type of pad to ensure that your Braava jet is functioning properly and that your floors are getting the proper care they need.

But cleaning solutions are just one aspect of maintaining your Braava jet. Here are a few other tips for keeping your device in top shape:

Regularly clean and maintain the pads: After each use, rinse the pads with water and allow them to air dry. If the pads are heavily soiled, you may need to wash them with a mild detergent.

Keep the Braava jet clean: Wipe down the exterior of the device with a damp cloth and allow it to air dry. Avoid getting water inside the device or using harsh cleaning agents on the exterior.

The Benefits Of Using The Recommended Cleaning Solutions With The Braava Jet

First and foremost, using the recommended cleaning solutions will help ensure that your Braava jet is functioning properly.

Sometimes, using non-recommended cleaning solutions can also create problems dealing with the warranty from the manufacturer. But by using recommended cleaning solutions, there’s no such worry.

Using the wrong solution could potentially damage your device or leave behind a residue on your floors. By using the correct cleaning solution, you’ll be able to enjoy the full benefits of your Braava jet without any problems.

In short, it’s important to use the correct cleaning solutions with your Braava jet to ensure that it’s working correctly and that your floors are getting the proper care they need.

Stick with the approved cleaning solutions, and your Braava jet will keep your floors looking beautiful for years to come.

Key items to look for before buying a self-emptying robot vacuum:

 • Easy to obtain parts and consumables: Robot vacs are getting more advance and more costly to own, so before I invest in one, I like to check Amazon for replacement parts.
 • Return to base to wash cleaning pad: If you’re buying a robot vacuum that also has mopping make sure it has the ability to return to the base to wash its cleaning pad. Over the several years of owning robot mops, I’ve witnessed them leave a white haze on the floor if the mopping pad is not cleaned frequently.
 • Long-lasting battery: This is a vital feature. If your bot vac cant store enough juice to complete the job, it will need to make several trips to the base to charge. This extended cleaning time can be annoying.
 • Strong suction power: If you have carpet in your home, good suction power is essential. For a robo vac to pull all the embedded debris out of your carpet, it will need good suction power.

Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra: Best Hands-Off Solution

Front view of Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra in front of a White Background

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra

Find price at Amazon
The Roborock S7 is one of the smartest robot mopping and vacuuming combos in the market. It provides an extremely convenient, totally hands-free cleaning experience. Using the Empty Wash Fill Dock, you get automatic dust emptying, mop washing, and robot water tank refilling. The dock even cleans itself too.

The Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra is the best option when it comes to one of the best self-emptying vacuum cleaners. With an auto mop washing and self-empty/self-refill system, it gives you the best hands-off cleaning experience for your home.

I have to say I’m a bit biased when It comes to the Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra. This robot vac is as good as it gets when it comes to a hands-off cleaning solution. The price tag does reflect its feature-rich capabilities.

Key Features:

 • It has a mapping and programming feature that keeps track of its cleaning.
 • mop washing and self-empty/self-refill system
 • You can adjust the mopping and vacuuming power according to your requirements.
 • It comes with app connectivity which is easy to navigate.
 • It has good suction (5100 Pa) and a smart AI obstacle avoidance feature.
 • Zone cleaning, I can send the robot vac to select areas in my home without doing a full clean.
 • The smart object avoidance will navigate around items left on the floor.

What I Like:

The first thing I like the most about this robot vacuum is that it will clean all surfaces without any intervention. If it detects carpet when it’s vacuuming and mopping your hardwood floors, it will lift its mopping pad and just vacuum the carpet. It works well on all floors, not just hardwood floors, making it to the top of my list. It will mop and clean the hardwood floors gently without getting stuck.

Whether you have kids or pets that make the hardwood floors dirty, just set up the scheduled cleaning, and it will do its job without any hassle.

The next best thing about this robot vacuum is the long battery life. So even if you want to deploy this robot vacuum in a big room, it should be able to do its job flawlessly.

This robot vacuum cleans and mops at the same time. Moreover, it returns to the base to wash the cleaning pad every 250 – 350 sqft (which you can adjust) and thus cleans, staying fresh during the entire cycle, and does not leave a white haze on floors.

What I Didn’t Like:

The smart AI object avoidance does not always detect cords on the floor. But that said, let’s face it, no robot vacuum can give you the ideal results 100% of the time.

Another small thing I noticed is that the dustbin that comes with the robot vacuum includes a packet that needs to be changed. I wish Roborock would have considered this aspect and would have included a reusable dustbin.

This is not really a dislike but more of a wishlist item. I wish it came with an area to connect a waterline and drain line so I wouldn’t have to keep filling and emptying the water containers. This would be a game-changer!

Who Should Get This Product?

If you want to keep your hardwood floors pretty much spotless and free from dirt and paw prints, – the Roborock S7 Max Ultra is the perfect match for you. The Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra is pretty much the Rolls-Rolls-Royce of robot vacuums, and the closes thing to a total hand-off solution.

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni: Runner Up

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni

All-IN-ONE OMNI STATION. A first in the industry. After vacuuming, your DEEBOT returns to the station and automatically empties the dustbin providing a hand-free solution. After mopping, it automatically washes the mop heads and dries them with hot air. Experience a whole new level of freedom from cleaning.

Another self-emptying robot vacuum that is relatively a bit less costly but still has some great features is the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni.

Key Features:

 • It has a dedicated voice assistant.
 • AI object avoidance technology is present.
 • It also comes with a security camera.
 • Its maximum suction power is 5000 Pa, and comes with a 3L dust bag.

What I Like:

One of the best things about this robot vacuum is its ease of use and maintenance. Secondly, the mobile app is also quite simple to connect, and the overall setup process is easy.

Moreover, the mapping feature of this robot vacuum works great. Since it also has a camera, you can see the house’s condition anytime over the internet.

What I Didn’t Like:

If you have a mixture of carpet, hardwood, and other hard surface floorings, it will not go over the carpet when it’s in mopping mode.

The base station feels a bit larger and considerably heavy. And as with the previous model, price is still a concern because this robot vacuum is also one of the top-end models on the market.

Who Should Get This Product?

Comparing this Ecovacs robot vacuum model with the Roborock, the differences are not that significant. For instance, the Roborock has a suction power of 5100 Pa, while the Ecovacs Deebot has a suction power of 5000 Pa.

In terms of battery life, there is a tie between both robot vacuums. Also, both of them are feature loaded with self-emptying functionality, a self-cleaning mop, a camera, and more.

But Roborock does have more features, like a bigger built-in water tank and lifting technology that allows better performance around carpets. So overall, if you have the budget, Roborock is undoubtedly the right choice, and a robot vacuum that is worth the price

But note that Ecovacs has a better overall design and looks than the Roborock. Also, it’s slightly less costly than Roborock.

Meet the Dreametech W10: the Swiss Army knife of clean, effortlessly sweeping, mopping, washing, and drying your floors with 4000Pa of suction power. Alexa-compatible and pet-hair savvy, it’s the smart home hero your floors have been waiting for.

The Dreamtech W10 Robot is an intelligent self-emptying robot vacuum that costs less but offers mopping and vacuuming functionality and other features.

Key Features:

 • It has 4000 Pa suction power and comes with a 6400 mAh battery.
 • It has a unique D-shape, enabling more efficient cleaning of the corners.
 • It also has an obstacle avoidance feature and is compatible with Alexa.
 • And it is equipped with a four-liter large clean sewage tank.

What I Like:

The cool and sleek design that can add a modern touch to any setting is the first thing I like about it. The mapping feature also works quickly.

Also, it’s simple to empty the dust canister. Although the vacuum’s suction power is not as great as the previous two models we saw earlier; it’s still decent enough to pick up dust particles and dirt from hardwood floors and carpets.

What I Didn’t Like:

It’s a bit loud, especially when pad cleaning occurs, and you may not enjoy it at times. Also, the mopping pad could have been better, but overall, it does its job without any major issues.

Who Should Get This Product?

If you have a tight budget and are looking for a self-cleaning robot vacuum that mops and vacuums simultaneously, this product is the right pick for you.

Sensitive to airborne particles or the dryness of the environment around you? You’re not alone – and finding the right air purifier and humidifier can be the key to superior air quality and healthier life.

Key Takeaways:

The Brondell Revive is a 2-in-1 air purifier and humidifier that uses dual true HEPA filters and layered methods of filtration and humidifiers to provide clean air with a balanced humidity for even the most sensitive individuals.

Keep reading for more information on how the Brondell Revive works and what it can do for you.

How Does Brondell Revive Improve Air Quality?

The Brondell Revive uses HEPA filters and a multi-layered system to ensure maximum air purity. Each layer is specifically designed to remove different contaminants from the air. The Brondell Revive reduces the number of allergens, hazardous gasses, and particulates, making the air easier to breathe.

It also uses evaporation technology to reintroduce moisture into the air.

Additional moisture helps reduce the irritation to the sinuses. The evaporation technology is used to help keep a balanced and optimum level of humidity in your home.

What Is Involved In The Air Filtration System?

The 2 intake ports with true HEPA filters work to remove allergens, dust, smoke, and other particulates.

And the 5 layer filtration system includes:

 • A pre-filter for large particles
 • An activated charcoal filter to remove odors and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
 • High-grade HEPA filter to remove 99.97% of allergens and airborne mold particulates
 • Proprietary filter reduces invisible substances like off-gassing fumes, formaldehyde, and VOCs
 • The second HEPA filter removes further contaminants.

The Importance Of Good Air Quality:

Air quality affects every aspect of our lives. The fewer contaminants there are in the air we breathe, the better our health.

Reduction of pollutants and particles results in:

 • Fewer Asthma attacks
 • Reduction of risks of heart disease
 • Lower chance of stroke
 • Reduced likelihood of lung disease.
 • Fewer incidences of lung cancer

Cleaner air reduces all of these problems.

As for humidity, air at a certain level of humidity reduces irritation to nasal passages and sinuses. It can also help itchy skin and reduce the chance of flu and cold viruses.

Why Are Air Purifiers Important?

Air Purifiers clear out the various contaminants in the air. A good filtration system can clean out particles down to the size of 3 microns.

Air purifiers reduce the levels of pollen, allergens, and even disease particles in the air.

Advanced systems can also reduce odors and harmful vapors, including those given off by new furniture (called off-gassing) and other VOC.

Why Are Air Humidifiers Important?

While overly humid air can make us feel sticky and uncomfortable, proper humidity has several benefits.

Generally speaking, the optimum humidity for most people is 45%, with a healthy range between 30% and 50%.

Humidifiers can help replenish moisture lost by opening doors or by airflow from cooling systems, which are generally dry.

Proper humidity can reduce the following health problems for people:

 • Irritation of throat and sinuses
 • Dry, itchy, or even cracking skin
 • Occurrences of flu or cold symptoms or other viruses
 • Persistent dry mouth
 • Dry eyes, or eyes that are watery.

Having a humidifier in your home, especially in a dry climate, can reduce the irritations you experience and improve your quality of life and overall health.

Brondell Air Filter Vs. Hospital Grade:

BrondellHospital Grade
Uses a five-layer filtration system, including 2 HEPA filtersUses a 3-stage filtration system, including one HEPA filter
Pre-filter layer traps large particlesMechanical filtration traps particles
The activated charcoal layer catches gasses and VOCsChemical filtration kills bacteria
The proprietary gas-reduction filter removes chemicals and VOCsNo specific filtration for odors or gasses
Each HEPA filter catches 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 micronsHEPA13 filter catches 99.9% of particles down to the size of 0.1 microns

Both systems have their positive aspects. Brondell has an advantage in that it also reduces gasses and noxious odors from the air, which the Hospital Grade filtration system does not.

The Hospital Grade system may catch smaller particles, but the filters are guaranteed to trap about the same percentage of airborne particulates.

Who Should Use Air Purifiers And Humidifiers?

Anyone can use air purifiers and humidifiers, and everyone will experience some benefit from having them in the home. In general, air purifiers and humidifiers can increase basic comfort in any living space by improving air quality.

However, certain types of individuals may benefit more than others from the introduction of these devices.

Asthmatics:

The reduction of pollutants in the air, as well as gasses, reduces the level of overall irritants. Asthmatics can be sensitive to many things, from gasses and odors to certain particulates.

An air purifier can remove most airborne substances that might trigger an asthmatic person.

Asthmatics also benefit from humidifiers, which reduce irritation to nasal passages and lungs.

Allergy Sufferers:

Allergens are a common problem and one that most purifiers are well-equipped to handle. With a good purifier to take dust particles, pollen, and other common allergens out of the air, allergy sufferers will have much less trouble with their symptoms.

Humidifiers can also help reduce the level of dust in the air, which can help those suffering from certain types of allergies.

Individuals With Chronic Lung Diseases:

Respiratory diseases like chronic bronchitis, COPD, and lung cancer leave respiratory systems weakened and more easily irritated by contamination in the air.

Filters in air purifiers remove particles that can cause a flare-up of the illness or make a recovery more difficult.

Humidifiers can make the air easier to breathe and reduce irritation. They also lower the risk of common infections, making it difficult for people with chronic health conditions to recover.

Individuals With Sensitive Skin:

Humidifiers are important for people with sensitive skin or certain skin conditions. The added humidity can help lower the chance of outbreaks, rashes, or dry, itchy skin.

Individuals With A History of Sinus Issues:

People with regular problems with conditions like sinusitis or nosebleeds may want to consider a humidifier or air purifier to help reduce incidents. Both devices can help reduce the conditions that may result in episodes.

Other Major Health Conditions:

Air purifiers and humidifiers have been found to aid persons at risk for or suffering from strokes and heart diseases.

Air purifiers and humidifiers can provide aid and comfort for anyone suffering from a weakened immune system by reducing the contaminants that may make them ill.

Other Ways To Improve Air Quality In The Home:

Air purifiers and humidifiers are not the only ways to improve your in-home air quality. There are several things you can do.

Steps you can take to improve your home air quality include:

Remove Carpeting:

Carpets can hold dirt and other particles within the fibers, leading to poorer air quality. They can even trap odors and gasses that can become a problem.

Rugs may create a similar problem; however, they are easier to wash and clean if you want something softer than wood or tile floors.

Regular Air Filter Changes:

Most homes, especially those with central air and heating, have air filters on their heating and cooling units.

Changing these filters regularly will result in better air quality. Most recommendations are every 1 to 3 months, depending on your living area, home size, presence of pets, and other factors.

Include filters on laundry machines in your maintenance, and clear them out no less than every 2-3 loads.

Use Vents When Cooking:

Most cooktops have an overhead vent. Using this pulls smoke and vapors out of your home, which benefits the air quality.

You’ll also want to regularly clean the vents to prevent the buildup of oils and other deposits that may be reintroduced into the air if the vent is too dirty.

Regular Sweeping and Dusting:

Regularly sweeping and dusting your home removes any deposits of particles. It not only extends the life of your filters and purifiers, but it also helps keep your home looking neat.

When dusting, pay particular attention to air vents, window blinds, and the top of higher surfaces – all places where dust and particles tend to gather.

You’ll also want to sweep baseboards and behind appliances to make sure there are no accumulations there.

Take Out Trash and Clean Out Disposals:

Both of these are common sources of unhealthy particles.

Clean and sanitize trash cans and garbage disposals regularly to keep the influence of both noxious odors and biohazard particulates away.

Clean Air ducts:

Dirty ducts are breeding grounds for trapped dust and other particulates. When running your HVAC system, the matter sitting in your ducts is forced out with the air and enters your room.

One solution if you’re on your mission for optimal air quality is getting your air ducts cleaned. An Air duct cleaning service will insert a spinning brush in your vent that will dislodge caked-on debris.

Pet Care:

Regular brushing and baths help reduce the allergens carried on your pet’s fur if you have pets, especially furry friends. It also reduces the risk of diseases affecting you or your animals.

Regular Sanitization:

Regularly wipe down living areas with some form of disinfectant cleaning solution. Pay special attention to areas with a lot of traffic or high humidity.

Note: It’s best to use solutions that don’t have harsh chemicals. Harsh chemicals can affect people with certain sensitivities and aren’t good for anyone in general.

So these are just a few things you can do to help improve the air quality in your home. Keeping your home as pollutant and particle-free as possible is the best thing you can do.

Whatever you do, you should ensure you have the best set-up for your household and plan ways to ensure your air is as clean as possible.

The post Instant Pot Sputtering & Hissing While Cooking [Solved!] appeared first on Simple Lifesaver.

]]>
For the first few minutes, your instant pot will hiss and sputter. After a while, though, the cooking resumes as usual. Does this sound familiar? So let us investigate the issue.

Key Takeaways:

As a general rule, if the hissing sound is noticed for the first few minutes and it goes away, it’s quite normal. However, if you frequently notice it for prolonged periods the reasons could be not having enough liquid, the sealing ring or lid is not correctly installed; the parts being clogged, worn out, or needing replacement.

Read on till the end to know all possible reasons and solutions to why your instant pot is hissing and sputtering and more.

Possible Reasons Why Instant Pot Sputtering And Hissing While Cooking

#1. Normal If Noticed Only For The First Few Minutes

A hissing sound comes from an Instant Pot when the excess pressure is released and until the pressure inside the cooker stabilizes. So if the sputtering or hissing occurs once in a while, for a short period in the initial cooking phase, that’s okay!

Solution:

Since noticing the hissing sound during the initial phase of cooking is not a big concern – nothing needs to be done on your part. Just ensure, all the parts and accessories are installed properly and cleaned.

#2. There Is A Lot Of Empty Space In The Pot

The instant pot hissing issue can occasionally occur with lower amounts of water.

The pot quickly reaches the desired temperature, but the heater remains

on. So momentarily, the pressure in the vessel exceeds its threshold, and the safety valve opens as a result.

But then, when the heat cycles and the pressure ceases to rise, normal cooking resumes.

Solution:

The most typical error when using an Instant Pot is forgetting to add liquid. To create pressure, a pressure cooker requires steam. So while cooking, you’ll need at least one cup of liquid.

Usually, it is recommended that the pot must have at least 1 cup (8 oz) of water to reach pressure.

That said, it is also essential to examine the contents of your pot. For example, pressure-cooked vegetables, such as cabbage, spinach, tomatoes, etc., release a great deal of water. Therefore, if you have those ingredients, you do not need to add a large amount of water.

In short, if you are suddenly noticing a hissing sound, it’s a good indication that you may not be using enough water – try adding more water, and hopefully, that should solve the issue.

But caution – don’t overload the instant pot either. Instead, try the recommended level of liquid depending on the recipes you are cooking and the mode you have selected.

Here’s what the Instant Pot Manual recommends:

 • For all pressure cooking procedures, the total volume of uncooked food and liquid should never exceed two-thirds of the inner pot’s capacity.
 • Preparing foods that expand during cooking, such as rice, beans, or dried vegetables, does not cross the inner pot’s capacity by more than half.
 • The danger of blocking the pressure release valve and creating extra pressure is increased by overfilling. This might potentially result in injury, leakage, or unit damage. Therefore, for non-pressure cooking procedures, it is recommended not to cross the maximum fill line.

#3. Sealing Ring Is Not Present Or Clogged

Sometimes, if the sealing ring is absent, steam can leak from the side of the instant pot.

Sealing rings are a vital component of the Instant Pot safety system. It is developed and constructed using the ideal material to produce the requisite strength to endure high-pressure forces during electric pressure cooking.

Also, the steam can leak from the side of the sealing ring and is clogged with food debris.

Solution:

Ensure there is a sealing ring present in your instant pot. Watch the following video to learn more about the sealing ring in your instant pot:

And even if your instant pot does have a sealing ring, ensure that it remains free of any food debris.

Unplug from the power outlet before cleaning and while not in use. Allow the unit to cool before installing or removing parts or cleaning it.

To disconnect, switch off any controls on Instant Pot, and remove the plug from the electrical socket. (Learn more about the Instant Buttons In this complete guide.)

Use water to clean the lid, including the removable sealing ring, pressure release, and anti-block shield, then dry-wipe them with a soft cloth. Do not disassemble the pressure release handle.

For further reference, we highly recommend you check our Instant Pot Cleaning Guide.

#4. The Instant Pot Sealing Ring Needs Replacement

One of the reasons why you find hissing sound and leaking steam can also be that the sealing ring needs to be replaced.

Those products can lose the capacity to function effectively with usage over time. As a general rule, changing the instant pot sealing ring is suggested every 12-18 months. The Instant Pot manual recommends replacing it every 18-24 months or whenever you notice any deformation.

Solution:

Replacing the sealing ring with a new one can solve the issue. Click here to check the instant pot sealing ring replacement (on Amazon)

Pull it outward from the sealing ring rack in sections to take off the sealing ring. Then, you can reinstall the sealing ring in the rack by pressing it down at intervals.

It is okay to install the sealing ring with either side facing up. This small replacement could help your instant pot to function effectively as usual.

#5. Lid Is Not Closed Properly

It can happen that you have not placed the instant pot lid correctly, resulting in the steam leaking.

Solution:

Ensure the lid is installed properly in its place. Then, if needed, you can switch off the Instant Pot and try inserting the lid properly and see if it works.

#6. Float Valve Is Clogged Or Damaged And Needs Replacement

For safety, the lids of Instant Pot models are equipped with a pin lock mechanism called a float valve, which prevents the lid from being released mistakenly when there is a great deal of pressure building up within the pot. As long as there is enough pressure within the inner pot, the float valve will rise.

Now, if you notice the steam leaking from the float valve (and thus making a hissing sound) for over two minutes – issues can be with the float valve.

Either the float valve is clogged with food debris, or its silicone ring has worn out because of regular usage.

Solution:

If the clogging is the issue, try cleaning the float valve silicone seal and see if that fixes the issue. Otherwise, it could be possible that the float valve silicone ring has been there for enough, and now it’s time to replace it. Click here to check the float valve seal for Instant Pot (available on Amazon).

#7. Pressure Release Handle Not In Sealing Position

If the steam comes out from your instant pot exhaust valve non-stop, the pressure release handle may not be in the sealing position.

The large knob on the lid of the Instant Pot is the pressure release handle. You can switch it between “Sealing” and “Venting.”

Solution:

It is essential to ensure that the pressure release handle remains in the sealing position for your every pressure cooking program.

So turn the release handle into the sealing position, – and that should solve the issue. Watch the following video to learn all about the Instant Pot steam release handle:

#8. The pressure Control System Is Not Working

If no troubleshooting works and the steam constantly keeps coming out from the exhaust valve – the pressure control could have failed, unfortunately.

Solution:

Contacting Instant Pot customer support and seeking the necessary help will be the best option.

If you have a damaged Instant Pot, we highly recommend reading this guide to learn if it is safe to use it or not.

Should Steam Come Out Of My Instant Pot While It’s Cooking?

Despite its name, the Instant Pot does not provide truly immediate cooking results, but it helps reduce the time required to prepare a meal. An Instant Pot requires some preheating time to reach a boiling point higher than 212 degrees Fahrenheit (at sea level).

Food within the Instant Pot releases steam while it cooks, and the device captures that steam as it warms.

High pressure is created within the Instant Pot as steam accumulates; once the pressure has been reached, a pressure valve opens, and steam escapes via a vent in the lid. At that point, the clock starts ticking on the cooking time.

For first-time users, the steam is the most intimidating aspect of using an Instant Pot. As the pressure builds within the Instant Pot, steam rapidly escapes via a little vent on the lid, and the appliance produces a lot of noise.

But don’t worry, this is normal, and if anything else goes wrong, the Instant Pot will turn off.

Safety is a common concern when considering whether or not to buy an electric pressure cooker like the Instant Pot. But is it true? Let’s see!

Since you could easily remove the lids of stovetop pressure cookers before the pressure was released, this cooking method gained a negative reputation due to the risk of burns and spills.

In contrast to pressure cookers that use a burner, electronic pressure cookers like the Instant Pot are extremely secure.

Pressure cookers used on the stove are also considerably safer now than they were in the past.

When something goes wrong, an Instant Pot or similar electronic pressure cooker will automatically turn off to prevent further damage. One of these safeguards is a burn alert that is activated if the Instant Pot overheats and food begins to burn, at which point the device automatically turns off.

Ah, the Bissell Crosswave—a modern marvel or just another pretty face in your cleaning closet? If you’ve ever stared at your floors, juggling a traditional vacuum, a mop, and perhaps a glass of wine, you’ve probably wondered: ‘Is this gadget the superhero my chores need?’ We get it; skepticism is your middle name.

But before you dismiss this multitasker as a mere jack-of-all-trades, let’s delve into the nitty-gritty. Can the Bissell Crosswave actually replace your trusty vacuum? Buckle up, floor enthusiasts; we’re about to take a ride on the clean side.

Key Takeaways:

As a general rule, Bissell CrossWave is not specifically made for using it only as a vacuum – it is suitable for mopping and vacuuming simultaneously. However, it does work as effectively as most other brands of vacuums, especially on hard floors.

Keep reading to learn whether you can use Bissell CrossWave on the carpet and what models offer the best vacuuming solution.

Can I Vacuum Carpet With My Bissell Crosswave?

You can use Bissell CrossWave to vacuum the carpet, and it will remove smells and loose dirt from the surface. However, it doesn’t outcompete traditional standalone vacuums when it comes to deep cleaning carpets.

Watch this video that begins exactly at the timestamp when the host tests the performance of Bissell Crosswave on the carpet.

Bissell CrossWave is marketed as a multi-surface cleaner that can work on different floors, such as hardwood floors and area rugs. (Learn more about the types of flooring where you can use Bissell Crosswave in this guide)

But with carpets, Bissell Carpets don’t perform that well.

While using this multipurpose vacuum on the carpet, you’ll have to apply a bit more pressure than usual.

So if you do the carpet cleaning only once in a while, this tool can be okay. However, it does clean the scattered dirt and debris on your carpet surface.

That said, it is not the ideal choice for deep cleaning your carpet or for frequent use.

Using Bissell CrossWave for Vacuuming

Even though Bissell Crosswave is not specifically made for dry vacuuming, you can use the feature individually. And there’s not much complexity involved.

Leave the water tank of the Bissell Crosswave empty and use the vacuum as you normally would.

Which Bissell CrossWave Model Works Best as a Vacuum?

Bissell CrossWave offers a variety of models, and although they have many similarities, each one is suitable for different tasks.

Some Bissell CrossWave models are Cordless Max, All-in-One, Pet Pro, and X7 Cordless Pet Pro. Let’s see a brief overview of each one so you can decide which one will be best for you.

Bissell CrossWave All In One (Best all-around use)

The All-in-One is the most economical and basic CrossWave cleaning system. The All-in-One is perfect for you if you wish to clean without worrying about battery life and prefer to use a corded vacuum.

It’s excellent for cleaning large rooms because of its huge tank and broad cleaning route. Covering a wide area is simple thanks to its broad base of support.

In addition, its small weight makes it easy to move around and transport upstairs.

It doesn’t have a dedicated brush for pet hair, so you may want to look for other options.

Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro (Cost-effective)

Bissell designed the CrossWave Pet Pro to help pet owners with their problems – the brush roll is tailored to pick up pet hair. In addition, it has a trigger sprayer for targeted cleaning.

The CrossWave Pet Pro is based on the design of the All-in-One but with an enhanced brush roll.

The Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro is an excellent choice for cleaning up solid dirt and stains if you have bare floors. It’s not too noisy, doesn’t seem cheap, and is simple to move and store.

However, you can’t convert it into a portable vacuum; thus, clearing messes on furniture and other obstacles to movement is difficult.

There is no way to modify the suction power, and there is no way to adjust the floorhead height either. Thus, cleaning up spills on shag carpeting is not a good choice.

Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max (Best user experience)

The Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max is a cordless version – and it feels similar to the CrossWave Pet Pro hybrid vacuum mop.

The same detergent-dispensing mechanism is used to scrape away set-in stains; however, the more portable cordless design comes at the expense of a weaker suction and brush roll motor, resulting in subpar performance on carpets.

The Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max is an excellent choice when cleaning hardwood floors. It quickly and efficiently removes pet hair and other small and large debris from such surfaces without significantly degrading its suction power as its dustbin fills up.

The mopping feature is very useful for removing stubborn grime and residue. The general construction quality is satisfactory, but it requires periodic cleaning or replacement of several parts, which can mount up over time.

Bissell CrossWave X7 Cordless Pet Pro (Best for vacuuming)

Another great choice for homes with pets is the Bissell CrossWave X7 Cordless Pet Pro. This is, however, the most expensive CrossWave model available.

It can vacuum and mop simultaneously, much like the other versions, making it ideal for quickly cleaning large areas. This cleaning gadget combines a vacuum and a mop, but it also has some unique additions.

You can use the X7 in a “Turbo Pet” setting. It works great on the thick, sticky dirt that often results from pet accidents. This mode ensures a spotless clean by maximizing the cleaning solution and vacuuming power.

It has similar features as the Cordless Max, including a self-cleaning cycle and WiFi connectivity. Imagine a Cordless Max with extra tools for dealing with pet accidents.

Alternative Floor Cleaning Solutions (Hands-Free)

Although the Bissell kicks butt as a floor cleaning solution, I’ve since upgraded to more of a hands-off floor cleaning solution.

Robot vacuums are quickly becoming one of the best hands-off cleaning solutions. I’ve owned several over the years, and I can never go back to something I have to push manually to clean my floors.

Some might call it being lazy, but I call it valuing my time and reallocating my time-savings (the time I would have spent cleaning the floors) to something else. To me, Bissell has always been a trusted source when it comes to cleaning. But did you know Bissell also makes a 2-in-1 Robot mop and vacuum?

There is still a bit of manual intervention when using the above Bissell bot vac.

In my opinion, the holy grail of hands-off floor cleaning is the Roborock S7 MaxV ultra. Don’t let the price shock you, this robot vac is pretty much Rosie from the Jetsons. If you don’t get the reference- Rosie is a cleaning-obsessed robot maid character in a futuristic cartoon.

A few lifesaving features

 • Self-cleaning mop pad
 • Self-emptying dirt bin
 • Scheduled cleaning
 • Zone/spot cleaning (I use this feature every day after I feed my son, love it)
 • Remote cleaning (for the days when you’re not home and you have that unexpected guest drop by)
 • Avoids objects (This thing is amazing at avoiding kid’s toys and animal waste on the floor)
 • Tangle-free vacuum brush roller

Final Verdict

The suction power of the Bissell CrossWave will play a key role. But, in general, all of them can do well on hard floors.

 • If you have the budget to spend extra for a quality item – you can go with the X7 Cordless Pet Pro that comes with the Turbo mode for enhanced suction power. It’s also cordless and has all of the best features.
 • However, if your budget is tight, you can go with the All In One or the Pet Pro model.

The biggest plus to owning an Instant Pot is the fact that it is so portable. You can literally bring it around everywhere you want to go – all you need is a power source.

This makes the Instant Pot a dream appliance for those who are planning to live off-grid.

Whether you choose to hit the road in your RV, Campervan, or Car, there’s no doubt you can definitely find a way to power your Instant Pot to cook all your favorite meals. One such method is to use an inverter.

Key Takeaways:

Inverters that convert DC electricity from your car battery into AC electricity can be used to power your Instant Pot to the required wattage for it to function properly with a negligible risk of damage to either item. As a result, if your inverter can power other AC appliances you have with you, it can definitely power your Instant Pot!

How many watts of power does an Instant Pot use?

In general, the wattage requirements of Instant Pots vary in accordance to the size of Instant Pot that you use. The key thing to remember here is the bigger your Instant Pot size, the more wattage is required for it to function.

We’ll be using two examples for this article, the 3-quart version and the 6-quart version of the Instant Pot.

This is because these two sizes are the best in terms of quantity and portability, and are two of the most efficient choices of cooking appliances whenever you’re planning to live off-grid.

The 3-quart Instant Pot uses an average of 700 watts, while the 6-quart uses around 1000 watts. Most inverters have an average output of between 300 watts and up to a whopping 3000 watts.

It’s always worth remembering that you should always plan to set aside enough wattage available in your inverter to power your Instant Pot, especially if you’re using other appliances at the same time.

This is because if you don’t have enough watts available, your Instant Pot will not have enough power to cook properly.

What Special Tools Do I Need to Run an Instant Pot off an Inverter?

One of the best parts about running an Instant Pot off your Inverter is the fact that you don’t need any special tools or requirements at all. You simply need to plug it into your inverter outlets, just like any other electrical appliance that you use.

Of course, in order to use your Instant Pot with your inverter, you’ll need to ensure that your inverter is properly hooked up.

Small inverters (up to 500W) are okay to run from your vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket. However, any inverters with wattage above that will need to be connected to your car battery terminals.

This includes sine wave power inverters, that can go up to 2000 watts (2kWh), which is enough to power a 6-quart Instant Pot, and at least 1 more heavy-duty electrical appliance as well.

What About Running an Instant Pot on Solar?

Having solar panels installed on your vehicle is a great way for you to power all of your devices and appliances while you’re living off-grid.

It’s easy to use your Instant Pot on Solar – simply plug it into your solar power inverter as you would with any other electronic device you use in your vehicle.

The only thing you need to make sure of is that you have enough solar panels pumping out the wattage required to charge your batteries.

A safe bet is to have at least 300W (3 x 100W solar panels should suffice) installed on your vehicle so that your batteries are kept sufficiently charged, and in turn, they can power your 3-quart or 6-quart Instant Pot effectively during operation.

A useful tip to note when it comes to solar power batteries is that regular batteries like FLA, AGM, or Gel batteries should be charged and should not be used when it goes below 50%, while LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries can be used up to the final 1% of juice without any risk of damage to the components.

So if you’re using FLA, AGM, or Gel batteries in your vehicle, try not to cook with your Instant Pot when your battery capacity hits 50% or under, to avoid issues.

Whereas if you’re using LiFePO4 batteries, you won’t have any problems cooking delicious meals and desserts in your Instant Pot all the way down to the last 1% of power.

Is it safe?

Using an Instant Pot with an inverter is about as safe as using any other electrical appliance in your van, car, or RV when you’re living off-grid.

Unless you have an issue with frayed wires in your Instant Pot’s power plug and you’ve got flammable materials just under those wires, the risk of it catching fire is very low.

Inverters regulate the DC current from a battery into AC current which is safe for all electrical appliances, including Instant Pots.

And there are built-in fuses with most, if not all inverters that are sold on the market that will protect your off-road rig from any electrical fires or overheating.

However, the one thing you’ll need when cooking off-road with your Instant Pot, no matter what vehicle you’re in, is a flat surface.

Instant Pots are designed to work best when they are placed upright, on a flat surface. This prevents any of the liquid or food inside it from spilling out and causing a short circuit that might disrupt the electricity supply to your entire rig.

Wattage Chart for Different Instant Pot Sizes

Here is a handy wattage chart for all the different sizes of Instant Pots you can use with your car’s inverter.

3 quarts Instant Pot6 quarts Instant Pot8 quarts Instant Pot

Recommended Inverters to Use With Instant Pots

Making great meals in your Instant Pot requires the use of a good Inverter. Here are some options you can use for your vehicle to power your Instant Pot and all other electronic appliances that you are bringing on the road with you.

 1. Krieger 1100-watt Power Inverter

With 1100 watts of peak power at your disposal, the Krieger power inverter is plenty for powering your 3-quart or 6-quart Instant Pot while you’re on the road.

 1. Giandel 2200-watt Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter

If you need to power more appliances when living off-grid, you’ll need to have a pure sine wave power inverter – such as this one from Giandel.

This gives you 2200 watts of pure sine wave power that eliminates interference – however, this is quite a big investment in terms of price.

 1. Energizer 4000-watt Power Inverter

4000 watts is probably more than required for powering even the biggest-sized Instant Pot, but if you need to have many electronic appliances powered up and ready to go wherever you are on the road, this beefcake from Energizer will truly be an indispensable part of your gear.

Conclusion

For many of us who live off road, inverters are the lifesaver that keeps our devices such as laptops and other electronic appliances charged and powered up so that we can use them just as we would at home.

The bottom line is, if you have an inverter for your vehicle, then you’ll definitely be able to power your Instant Pot and cook all of your favorite meals with it.

However, you’ll need to ensure that your inverter can provide 800 to 1000 watts of power at the very least, to prevent your Instant Pot from malfunctioning.

A wattage that is too low can result in your Instant Pot not being able to reach proper cooking temperatures, leaving you with half-cooked or badly cooked food.

One good thing to remember is, if your inverter is plugged into your vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket, chances are, it won’t provide enough power to cook using the Instant Pot – these only put out a maximum of 500 watts.

The best type of inverters are ones that connect to your car battery – these will definitely have enough power to allow you to use your Instant Pot, as well as use other electronic appliances at the same time.

The condensation collector is one of the many accessories that come with an Instant Pot. But being a small attachment, it is likely to be misplaced easily.

Key Takeaways:

Fortunately, the instant Pot can still be operated without a condensation collector. However, the moisture produced will accumulate on the surface your pot is sitting on. Although not recommended, if you decide to use the pot without a condensation collector, make sure to lay a cloth down to absorb moisture.

Keep reading to learn more about the condensation collector, do you really need it, what it does, and more.

What Does the Condensation Collector Do?

A condensation collector is simply a small rectangular cup made of plastic that acts as a catchall for any excess moisture that may escape from the pot. This prevents the surface of your countertop from becoming wet as a result of the moisture.

It is constructed out of BPA-free and food-grade PP plastic. However, because it is a water collector, bacteria can readily proliferate inside of it; therefore, cleaning it well after each use is essential.

Usually, it is suggested that you replace it every six months; however, the frequency with which you use your pot will determine whether or not this is necessary.

Do All Instant Pots Come With a Condensation Collector?

All Instant Pots don’t come with a condensation collector. For instance, some models like the LUX60 V3 don’t come with such a feature.

Some models of Instant Pots don’t come with the spot where you could attach the condensation collector. So don’t be surprised if you don’t find a spot to attach the condensation collector.

In case you have a damaged Instant Pot, we recommend you check our guide to learn if it is safe to use it and how to fix it.

How Important Is the Condensation Collector?

The condensation collector is a little, rectangular plastic cup – a helpful accessory that comes with your Instant Pot.

Its primary purpose is to collect any condensation the instant pot may produce during the cooking process.

There are a lot of other rice cookers on the market that has it as well.

Some people get away with not using one by placing a dishcloth or something that absorbs moisture under the Instant Pot to prevent spillage over the countertop.

Actually, some users even forget to install it in place and realize it’s missing several months later.

That said, the collector aids in keeping things clean, much like an instant pot.

The unit is more difficult to clean when liquid leaks from the cooker rather than into the condensation collector. This affects the durability and interferes with maintaining excellent overall cleanliness when cooking.

So overall, it would be a good decision if you have the condensation collector installed.

Where Can I Get a Replacement Condensation Collector?

Thankfully, replacement condensation collectors are available on sites like Amazon. Just make sure to check whether the replacement condensation collector you choose is compatible with your collector or not.

For instance, check out this condensation collector replacement (available on Amazon). It is compatible with the following models:

 • 5 quart
 • 6 quart
 • 8 quart
 • Ultra 60
 • DUO60
 • DUO89
 • LUX80

But it is also essential to highlight that it is not for the 3-quart models of Instant Pot.

Another place where you can find the Instant Pot condensation collector is directly from the brand’s website. For example, you can check this instant pot 5 & 6-quart condensation collector on InstantHome.com.

That condensation collector is compatible with the following models:

 • Duo
 • Duo Plus
 • Duo Nova
 • Max
 • Lux
 • Ultra
 • Viva 5 quart

Note that the 8-quart models, 3-quart mini, and the Pro model don’t support this Instant Pot 5 & 6-quart Condensation Collector. So if this doesn’t work for you, try searching on their website.

You can type in keywords related to the specific model of instant pot you have and the condensation collector. Then, if the items are in stock, you will see the product.

Moreover, another place where you can get the replacement condensation collector is eBay. For example, check this is the Instant Pot condensation collector (on eBay).

It is essential to ensure the product fits your Instant Model or not – details should be given on the products details page.

We also checked on Walmart and found this Instant Pot condensation collector cup replacement by Zonefly.

Some of the models it is said to work on are as follows. For more details, you can visit the product page.

 • DUO
 • Ultra 60
 • DUO60
 • DUO89
 • LUX80

If you are a new Instant Potter, we highly recommend checking our ultimate guide on Instant Pot.

How to Properly Install the Condensation Collector?

Here’s how you can install a condensation collector on your Instant Pot:

 1. First, locate the rear end of your Instant Pot cooker.
 2. Next, hold the condensation collector and align the top of it with the guides on the cooker.
 3. Then, press the collector in the location, and your condensation collector will be attached to the instant pot.

Remember, sliding up or down is not the best way to install the condensation collector.

If you hold the collector in your hand, you will notice grooves on top of it on both ends. And rails will be present on the instant pot (where you want to attach the collector).

So you have to align the grooves and the rails and press the collector. For more assistance, feel free to follow this video:

How to Clean the Condensation Collector and Other Accessories?

Generally, you can clean your Instant Pot condensation collector in the dishwasher (on the top rack). Alternatively, you can wash it by hand in warm soapy water, rinsing it thoroughly and then allowing it to dry naturally.

You can use the dishwasher to clean the steam rack and any other supplementary accessories that came with your Instant Pot.

Or, you can manually wash them in hot soapy water and then thoroughly rinse them. Either way is fine.

If you are struggling with stains on your Instant Pot, don’t forget to check our guide on the top 5 easy ways to remove stains from your Instant Pot.

Using solar energy comes to mind if you want to cook with your Instant Pot in situations like camping off-grid. But is it possible to run an instant pot on solar?

Key Takeaways:

It is possible to run an Instant Pot on solar energy using a solar generator like a Jackery 1000. However, it can still consume considerable power, so it is good to cook with it on solar power on a bright, sunny day so there is enough time for the generator batteries to recharge.

Keep reading to learn in detail about using an instant pot on solar power, its wattage, and more.

How Many Watts Does It Take To Run an Instant Pot?

As a general rule, the majority of 6-quart Instant Pots are about 1000 watts, while the 3 and 8-quart models average between 700 and 1200 watts, respectively.

On average, an instant pot takes around 1000 watts. So to give you an idea, here’s a chart showing the comparison of it with the two other common household appliances.

Device:Watts:
Toaster Oven1200
Instant Pot1000
Hair Dryer1800

Remember that the Instant Pot still requires power even though it consumes less than other appliances.

However, the Instant Pot model you have and the frequency of your use will determine whether or not you find it to be energy efficient.

In contrast to other kitchen equipment, such as a stove or oven, the Instant Pot is incredibly energy efficient and has a low electrical footprint. Check out this guide to learn about instant pot vs. oven.

In short, Instant Pot is a fantastic choice for anyone concerned about its environmental impact. It’s practical, adaptable, and useful for making tasty dishes. So give it a go and see if it works for you.

Recommended Solar Generators for Running an Instant Pot?

The Jackery 1000 (available on Amazon) is a great solar power generator for using an instant pot, especially for a 3-quart instant pot. Usually, 3-quart instant pot models need only around 700 watts. Therefore, a Jackery 1000 generator can easily handle that.

Jackery’s solar generator 1000 combines their portable Jackery Explorer 1000 power station with SolarSaga 100W solar panels.

It transforms solar energy gathered by SolarSaga 100W solar panels into electrical energy, then stores it in the Explorer 1000 portable power station.

Powering campers, RVs, or as a backup in the event of a power outage, this solar generator is dependable and environment-friendly.

However, if you have a higher model instant pot like an 8-quart, you can check out the OUPES 1800W Solar Generator (available on Amazon). An 8-quart instant model uses around 1200 W, so the sOUPES 1800 should be enough.

How to Conserve Energy While Using an Instant Pot?

Get an Instant Pot with a low power rating. Keeping the wattage of your kettle low will reduce its energy use. In other words, an eight-quart pot is overkill if you’re only going to be feeding only yourself and your partner. You can get by with a three-quart size.

Use the keep warm feature as little as possible. It is essential to only utilize the warming function when absolutely necessary because doing so will continue to use power.

Use the instant pot’s “Keep Warm” function if you’re not ready to serve the dish straight away. This mode will keep your meal warm until you’re ready to eat while consuming far less power than remaining on the “Cook” option.

Ensure everything is cooked properly in the Instant Pot. It will take longer to cook and more energy; if the food is not evenly cut. If you want to save your instant pot some extra effort, chop up all of the food into smaller pieces before you start cooking.

Keep the pot clean at all times. Due to the additional layer of food particles on the liner, such a pot will take up more energy than a clean one.

Ensure the water in the pot is filled before using it. If you do this, you can reduce the likelihood of scorching and, thus, the amount of energy required to cook the dish.

However, if you’re preparing something prone to getting soggy, it is important to stick to the appropriate water levels.

Use the natural release option whenever possible. Instead of activating the rapid release feature, the pressure is allowed to dissipate gradually on its own. The quick-release mechanism consumes more power than typical heating options.

If you want to have dinner on the table faster with your Instant Pot, use the pressure cooker setting. Since this approach is speedier, less energy is required to complete the cooking process.

The Instant Pot is a helpful tool for saving time and effort when cooking many dishes at once.

Cooking in bulk and putting the extras in the freezer is an excellent way to save both time and money. Moreover, if you plan ahead, you can reduce the time and energy spent cooking.

Add the ingredients in the order that you’ll cook them.

The food will cook more quickly, and you won’t have to worry about it becoming overdone.

Skip preheating the pot – To avoid wasting power, preheating is not necessary while using an instant pot.

Refer to our guide on using an instant pot in an RV for the best instant pot meal tips, sizes, and more.

Bottom Line:

Usually, the most practical and easy way to cook off-grid is using a wood-burning stove or a gas. It’s way cheaper and easier than going the route of an instant pot with a solar power setup.

That said, if you already have the right arrangements to power your instant pot with a good solar generator – it’s worthwhile to have fun cooking in an instant pot too.

Ensure you have chosen a bright sunny day so that batteries have enough time to recharge even if the instant pot sucks more power than expected.

Good Luck!

The Instant Pot has taken the world by storm. This all-in-one cooker has given home chefs and busy homeowners alike the ability to create their favorite gourmet meals easily and quickly. But if you’re planning to move to Europe from North America, you might be wondering if you can bring your Instant Pot along and use it there.

Yes, you can use an American-bought Instant Pot in Europe. However, before you plug it into any power socket in Europe, you must always ensure that you have the necessary voltage converter device. European appliances run on 220v, while North American appliances run on 110v – as you can tell by the numerical difference between the two, this 100v difference can cause some serious damage to your Instant Pot.

Additionally, European wall socket outlets are Type C, while North American wall sockets are Type A and Type B.

How to use a North American Instant Pot in Europe?

If you want to use your North American Instant Pot in Europe, you’re going to need to get a voltage converter. This device enables you to use your Instant Pot in any country in Europe safely.

Voltage converters work by changing the input voltage from the main wall socket into a specific voltage that is required for the appliance that is being used. For example, if a European wall socket gives an output of 220v, by plugging in a North American-Europe specific voltage converter in the wall socket first, it turns into 110v, which is generally safe for all North American appliances.

In order to use your North American Instant Pot in Europe, simply plug in your North American-specific voltage converter into the Type-C European wall socket first, then plug in your Type A or Type B North American Instant Pot’s power plug into the inputs found on the voltage converter. Most voltage converters are built with many plug options for their input side, so find the input that looks like the Type A or B North American plug.

Once you’ve done the above steps, the voltage that is currently running through the entire chain is a safe 110v, which allows you to use your North American Instant Pot without risk of damage.

Best voltage converters to use for an Instant Pot

There’s no doubt that voltage converters are one of those electronic devices that are easily found on the market today. Because of that, you might not know if your voltage converter is a cheap, mass-made product that is built to last only a few uses.

If you want to use your Instant Pot (or any other North American appliances) in Europe, you’ll need a voltage converter that works well, for as long as you need it to. Here are some of the best North American – European voltage converters you can find today.

 1. BESTEK Universal Travel Adapter

This compact voltage converter and travel adapter combination is one of the best for devices that run on 110v. It features patented technology that converts voltage safely for different countries such as Australia, North America, Japan, and Europe.

It also has USB outlets (isolated from the AC power so that it doesn’t damage your USB devices) so you can charge up your smartphone or other devices while your Instant Pot is cooking your meals.

 1. Foval Power Step Down Voltage Converter

If you’re looking for a voltage converter that can power all your North American appliances in Europe or anywhere over 150 countries in the world, this is one to consider.

The Foval voltage converter is passport sized and highly portable, and contains 4 USB inputs that allow you to charge multiple devices while also using your Instant Pot at the same time. The voltage converter also has an auto shutdown feature in the case of a power surge, protecting all your devices plugged into it.

 1. DoAce Travel Voltage Converter

The DoAce Travel Voltage Converter steps down any 220v or foreign voltage wall socket sources into a safe 110v/120v U.S standard device voltage. The smart dual USB ports can power all USB charging devices so that you can simply charge your smartphones or cameras while your Instant Pot is plugged in and in use simultaneously.

It is designed with surge protection as well, with an auto shut-off function that protects your devices and appliances in the case of short circuits, voltage overloads, and high operating temperatures.

It is worth noting that while all European countries have the same Type-C wall socket, Italy uses a Type-F and Type-L wall socket, which means you’ll need a suitable travel adapter if your voltage converter doesn’t have the Type-F or Type-L attachments. So if you’re spending some time in romantic Rome or sunny Positano, ensure you have the right wall socket attachments with your voltage converter.

Is there a dual voltage instant pot?

Unfortunately, no. There is no dual voltage option for North American Instant Pots. The only way you can get around this is to either purchase a step-down voltage converter for your Instant Pot, or purchase an entirely new Instant Pot from the country that you’re going to.

Instant Pots that are sold in every country are designed to follow the voltage requirements of the specific region. However, there are certain countries in the world that share the same voltage outputs even when they’re not in the same region.

For example, a European Instant Pot will not work in North America, but will work in the Philippines as both Europe and the Philippines share 220v wall socket voltage – but only if a travel adapter is used. If in doubt, do some research online about the voltage and socket type of the country that you’re traveling to.

Can I travel with my Instant Pot?

The question is not whether you can travel with your Instant Pot – the question is if you should travel with your Instant Pot?

Traveling to Europe from the U.S with your North American Instant Pot will require you to purchase a high-quality voltage converter first to avoid damaging your Instant Pot. If this seems like an unnecessary additional purchase for you, then you’d probably be better off buying another Instant Pot wherever you’re going that has been built for the local voltage requirements. This is probably a better option when you’re planning to stay in Europe for longer than just a couple of months.

However, if you consider that buying a voltage converter means that you can power your Instant Pot, charge up your USB devices, and also power other U.S appliances simultaneously, it could prove to be worth your money.

Ultimately, it depends on you and your needs – if your North American Instant Pot is something you can’t live without when you first land on European soil, then you should travel with it. Just make sure you have a good high-quality voltage converter that you can use it with to avoid any damage to your Instant Pot.

Difference between 110v and 220v?

110v and 220v outlets have many key differences. Let’s look at some of the main ones below.

110v is used as a catch-all term for all 110v, 115v,120v, and 125v services. Just like how 220v is used in the same way to describe 230v, 240v, and 250v services.

When it comes to visual differences, you’ll find that most, if not all, 110v wall socket outlets look the same. You can tell a 110v outlet by the two vertical slots that are placed next to each other – although one side may be larger than the other depending on if the outlet is polarized. You might also find a third slot that turns the two slots into a three-slot triangle.

220v outlets do not all look the same. This is why while some countries may share the same voltage requirements, their wall sockets require a certain type of travel adapter to be used before plugging in their devices.

110v wall sockets are almost always found in pairs wherever they are. These are called duplexes, whereas a single 220v wall socket can be found anywhere easily.

If you are not sure which voltage the country you’re traveling to using, here’s a list.

Conclusion

The reason why Instant Pots have become one of the top-selling cooking appliances in the market is primarily due to their simplicity and ease of use. You may find that traveling without your Instant Pot is just something that you can’t do, as you still want to make your delicious meals in your Instant Pot wherever you are in the world. Also, there might be some sentimental value attached to this humble appliance.

If you’re traveling to Europe, all you need to do in order to use your Instant Pot there is to purchase a voltage converter that is high quality, like the ones I’ve listed above. These voltage converters conveniently step down the 220v wall socket voltage in all European countries in order to accommodate your U.S Instant Pot’s 110v voltage requirement.

Then you’ll be all set to enjoy cooking your favorite meals in your favorite Instant Pot, without any worries at all.

The Instant Pot has fast become the must-have kitchen appliance for any home chef worth his salt. And rightfully so, since the Instant Pot makes whipping up meals, desserts, and just about anything and everything worthy of a weeknight dinner to a weekend feast with the family.

But as much as I like whipping up my culinary creations in my home kitchen, I love traveling, exploring the boondocks, and being on the road as well, whether in my car, van, or an RV. And the best part? Well – I always bring my Instant Pot along with me while I’m living off-grid! So if you’re asking yourself the question, “Can you use an Instant Pot in a vehicle?”

If you’re planning to use an Instant Pot in an RV or converted camper van with a built-in inverter, you can typically plug it in without any additional device. However, in a standard car, van, or even truck, you’ll need a power inverter that supports at least 850 – 1500 Watts to run a 3-6 quart Instant Pot.

But there is more to know on the subject, so keep reading to avoid any issues when trying to use an Instant Pot in an RV, car, or van.

Using an Instant Pot in a van vs. car vs. RV?

Bringing along your Instant Pot on your road trips can be tricky, but the rewards truly outweigh the challenges. The convenience of cooking perfect meals in the comfort of your vehicle makes it all worthwhile.

Running an Instant Pot in a van

If you’re planning to go road tripping in a van, the Instant Pot makes cooking meals such a simple task, which makes it a no-brainer to use it instead of the cumbersome propane stoves that are normally used by van travelers.

When you’re traveling in a van, the most important thing you need to worry about is the conservation of the battery. Whenever you’re running electrical appliances while traveling in a van, you’ll always need to keep an eye out for the power consumption of each device, in case you run out of juice halfway, or worse, if the battery runs completely flat and you can’t start your van without a boost from another vehicle (which, if you’re going completely off-grid with no other cars around for miles – can be a terrifying experience).

Using a battery monitoring device to help keep an eye on your battery life can be a simple lifesaver! ;)You’ll be able to simply pull out your smartphone and check the status of your vehicle’s batteries.

Luckily, the Instant Pot does not consume that much power at all. In comparison, cooking a pot roast in a standard home electric oven uses up to 2000 watts of electricity per hour when programmed at a medium heat setting. The same dish can be cooked in an instant pot for 1000 watts, which is half that of the conventional home electric oven.

The fact is, Instant Pots are already very popular with those who are living the #vanlife, due to the fact that it is so portable, and you can simply plug it into your van’s power inverter or a standalone generator, place it on a flat surface, and leave it to cook all your favorite meals while you drive to your next location or when you’re settling down for the day.

Running an Instant Pot in a car

Bringing your Instant Pot around while you’re driving in your car is a bigger challenge, due to the fact that your car is probably going to be the smallest vehicle you’ll have out of the 3 choices. However, it can still work, as many have done it before, and many more (including you) will be able to cook simple full meals while living in your car in the future.

When traveling with your Instant Pot in a car, you’ll want to consider the space that it takes up, so using a 3-quart(the smallest model) would be your best option.

The best way to secure your Instant Pot while you’re driving is to make sure that you’ve placed it right side up on a seat, and that you have securely buckled up the seat belt. You can use either the back seats or the passenger seat – the only thing you need to do is ensure that it is secured with a seat belt so that it doesn’t fly around, spilling its contents all over your car interior while you make a hard turn or a sharp brake as you drive to your destination.

Another way I secure an Instant Pot is by placing it on the ground between the front seat and the leg area of the back seat. Then I slide the seat all the way back till it touches my Instant Pot. This transport method should clamp your Instant Pot so that it stays in place.

If you are willing to spend some money to make sure that your Instant Pot remains intact while you drive, you can choose to invest in an Instant Pot bag. These bags are purpose-built to fit standard 8-quart sized Instant Pots and their accessories, keeping everything you need to use your Instant Pot in a convenient and handy carrying case.

Operating your Instant Pot from your car requires you to have an inverter or an external generator. As mentioned above, Instant Pots operate at a maximum of 1000 watts per hour of use, which is definitely a feasible number for most sine wave power inverters or portable generators.

Running an Instant Pot in an RV

Traveling in your RV opens up a whole world of options to power your Instant Pot – you can run it off an inverter, a generator, or the dedicated wall sockets installed in your RV. In fact, using an instant pot while living in your RV is probably the easiest way to cook all your favorite Instant Pot meals due to the space and power availability you have in a standard RV.

Simply keep your Instant Pot stashed away in a cabinet or storage space in your RV, take it out when you need to use it, put in your ingredients, plug it in, and start it up and you’ll have a fully cooked meal ready in no time. Washing up is also much easier, as your RV will definitely have a built-in sink cabinet with dishwashing liquid and a drainage system that you can use whenever you clean up your Instant Pot after each use.

How to plug instant pot into a vehicle

The biggest concern that many people have when traveling with their Instant Pot is the issue of adequate power supply to the Instant Pot according to its requirements. For most, if not all dishes, Instant Pot power consumption rarely goes past 1000 watts.

This means that your car, RV, or van’s power inverter should be able to produce a steady supply of 1kWh power. Most sine wave power inverters are able to produce 2kWh power, which is more than enough for the Instant Pot and at least 1 more appliance as well.

Anything below 1kWh however, and you’d be risking producing less power than required for a regular Instant Pot meal, which can lead to undesirable results. For example, if you have a small 300W inverter, you’re probably not going to be happy with your Instant Pot-made pot roast as the power supplied to the Instant Pot just isn’t enough to cook it to the required temperature.

All 2000W inverters connect to your car battery terminals, and not your cigarette lighter socket. This is because your cigarette lighter socket only produces 12V of DC power, which is not enough juice for the inverter to turn into 2000W of power. Lower wattage inverters, such as 150W or 300W options can run from your cigarette lighter socket with no issue – but this unfortunately isn’t enough to run an Instant Pot.

Best travel size instant pot

Generally, the best size of travel Instant Pot is the 6-quart Instant Pot. This is just the right size to make delicious meals for two (and still have some leftovers for the next day). The 3-quart size, although small and portable, just isn’t as flexible as the bigger 6-quart version.

The 3-quart instant pot uses a maximum of 700 watts of power, while a 6-quart uses a maximum of around 1000 watts. This is not a huge difference in wattage, but if you consider the extra quantity of food that you get from a 6-quart as compared to half of that in the 3-quart, that extra 300W of power does go a pretty long way.

Best Instant Pot meals to cook in a vehicle (no kitchen needed)

Here are some great recipes for you to try the next time you use your Instant Pot in your vehicle.

The Chicken and broccoli stir-fry guarantees a mess-free Instant Pot dinner, while being delicious and nutritious at the same time.

What’s more comforting than a big plate of hot mac & cheese? Especially if making it in the Instant Pot is so easy, even while you’re on the road in your van, car, or RV!

This creamy pasta comfort dish can be made in an Instant Pot easily, and the best part is, you can make it at a fraction of the price you pay for it in restaurants.

You can also use your Instant Pot to whip up some delicious cake for dessert, after you’ve cooked all of your main meals.

Conclusion

Bringing your Instant Pot along with you while you’re on the road may seem like a challenge, but if you have the right tools (sine wave power inverter or generator that produces at least 1000W of power), cooking in and transporting your Instant Pot everywhere you go will be a breeze.

You should also remember to keep your Instant Pot clean, especially the interior. Whenever possible, wash it with dishwashing soap and rinse it out thoroughly and dry it before storing it away, as this will prolong the life of your Instant Pot, so that you can continue to use it for however long you plan to live off-grid.
