Quick Comparison Table

Model Suction Self-Empty Pet Waste Detection
Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra 5,500 Pa ✅ 7 weeks ✅ Yes
iRobot Roomba j9+ Strong ✅ 60 days ✅ Yes (P.O.O.P.)
Ecovacs Deebot X2 8,000 Pa ✅ Yes ✅ Yes
Shark AI Ultra Strong ✅ 60 days ❌ No
Eufy X10 Pro 8,000 Pa ✅ Yes ✅ Yes

What to Look for in a Pet Robot Vacuum

Suction Power

Pet hair embeds deep in carpet fibers. Look for at least 4,000 Pa suction. For heavy shedders, 5,000+ Pa makes a noticeable difference.

Brush Design

Rubber extractors beat bristle brushes for pet homes. Hair slides off rubber instead of wrapping. The Roomba’s dual rubber rollers and Shark’s self-cleaning brushroll are standouts.

Filtration

If anyone in your home has pet allergies, HEPA filtration is non-negotiable. It captures 99.97% of particles including pet dander. The EPA explains HEPA standards if you want to dive deeper.

Self-Emptying Base

Pet hair fills dustbins fast. A self-emptying base means weeks of hands-off cleaning instead of emptying after every run. Pair it with the right robot vacuum accessories for the best experience.

Pet Waste Detection

Nothing ruins your day like a robot vacuum spreading a pet accident across your entire floor. AI detection prevents this nightmare.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I run a robot vacuum with pets?

Daily for heavy shedders, every other day for light shedders. Most robots let you schedule automatic runs — set it and forget it.

Will a robot vacuum scare my pet?

Most pets adjust within a week. Start with shorter cleaning sessions while you’re home. Quiet models like the Eufy X10 Pro help anxious pets acclimate faster.

Can robot vacuums handle long pet hair?

Yes, but look for tangle-free brush designs. Models with rubber extractors (Roomba, Roborock) or self-cleaning brushrolls (Shark) handle long hair best.

Do I still need a regular vacuum if I have a robot?

For most pet owners, a robot handles 90% of daily maintenance. Keep a handheld or stick vacuum for furniture and stairs, but you’ll use it much less often.

Can robot vacuums be repaired if they break down?

Yes! Most issues are fixable. We cover this in detail in our guide: Can Robot Vacuums Be Repaired?

The Bottom Line

Pet hair never stops, so your vacuum shouldn’t either. The right robot vacuum runs daily, handles the fur load, and requires minimal intervention from you.

Our recommendations:

Pick one, set a schedule, and reclaim your floors from the fur invasion.

Have you ever noticed your feet look like they’ve taken a stroll down a charcoal path? It’s not the best look, and it’s definitely not a sign of clean floors.

But don’t worry, I’ve got some tried-and-true solutions that will have your floors so clean; you’ll be ready to dance barefoot without a second thought!

Why Does My Floor Make My Feet Black?

Before we dive into the fixes, first, it’s important to know why this is happening so that you can get a complete idea.

It’s The Residue Left Behind

Sometimes the floor cleaners you use don’t just vanish into thin air. They leave behind a thin layer – a residue that’s not too fond of saying goodbye.

This sticky film is like a magnet for debris.

Your floor might look sparkly for a moment, but this invisible layer is busy collecting dirt, which then cozies up to your feet.

Mop Not Working Properly

What if your mop is just going in motion, but giving the actual performance it’s supposed to do? Yep, some cleaning tools, especially those that promise a quick fix, might be cutting corners.

They swoop across the floor, spreading the grime around rather than picking it up.

If you’ve been through the frustration of a mop that just won’t spray, especially when you’re in the middle of cleaning, I feel your pain. For those using a Swiffer WetJet, troubleshooting can be simple. Before you give up on it, check out these easy fixes on Swiffer WetJet not spraying here.

The Situation Of Damp Floors

Even if you’ve done the hard work of cleaning, if the floor doesn’t dry properly, you’re setting the stage for dirty feet.

Damp floors can act like glue, holding onto any debris that comes in contact with them.

When your feet press against the moist floor, they pick up this debris, leaving you with that frustrating, grimy feeling.

Unwanted Sticky Substance

Your floor could be hosting some uninvited grime.

Maybe it’s the sticky residue from tar tracked in from outside or an unidentified sticky substance that’s found a new home on your vinyl, tiles, or hardwood.

Whatever it is, it clings to your floors, and when you walk over it, it clings to your feet too.

Cracks And Crevices Collection

It’s like dirt throws a party in the tiny grooves and spaces of your flooring.

Over time, this old dirt settles in, and regular mopping might skip over these micro hiding spots, leaving your feet to do the dirty work of collecting it 😉

For those tough-to-reach corners and edges where dirt loves to settle, a regular mop might not be enough. That’s where a robo-vac can be a game changer.

Check out this guide to know about my recommended robot vacuum for cleaning corners.

Skipping Regular Cleanups

If you’re not cleaning the floors on the regular, dirt throws a takeover. It’s not just about a quick sweep.

Without a routine that involves sweeping and washing, the dirt accumulates, and the next thing you know.

Pro-Tip: Always start with a sweep or a vacuum. Jumping straight to mopping just pushes the dirt around, and it finds its way into those already-mentioned nooks and crannies. That prep step makes all the difference.

Regular cleanups are key, and sometimes a good vacuuming is what it takes before mopping. If you’re looking for a vacuum that does a thorough job cleaning up baseboards and preventing dirt from settling into crevices, I’ve got some solid recommendations for you. Check the link to learn more.

Just Light Mopping Isn’t Enough

Light mopping might keep things looking okay, but it doesn’t always cut it.

Sometimes, your floor needs a good, vigorous scrub to get rid of the deeper dirt that a gentle mop can’t reach.

Here’s How To Stop Your Floor From Making Your Feet Black

Give Your Floors a Good, Deep Clean

First things first, let’s start with a deep clean. Roll up your sleeves and grab a scrub brush, some mild detergent (for example, Murphy’s Oil Soap) and a bucket of water.

Follow the mixing directions on your detergent bottle to get the perfect cleaning solution. Now, it’s time for a little elbow grease.

Scrubbing by hand helps you really get into those little nooks and crannies where dirt likes to hide.

Plus, working with rags and clean water ensures you’re not just pushing the dirt around – you’re actually picking it up and getting rid of it.

When it comes to the deep clean, choosing the right cleaning solution is crucial. You want something effective yet safe for your floors.

By the way, do you use a Braava jet? Then you might also want to know if you can use any cleaning solutions with it.

Protect Your Clean Floors With A Seal

Now that your floor is clean, let’s talk about keeping it that way. If you’ve noticed the finish on your floor isn’t what it used to be, it might be time for a new sealant coat.

This is especially true if you’ve had to strip the floor in the past.

Sometimes it’s a DIY job, but other times you might want to call in a professional to refinish the floor. This can really lock out the dirt and keep your floors looking fresh longer.

Regular Maintenance is Key

A good sweep or a run with the vacuum can make a world of difference, especially in those trouble spots where dirt collects.

Making this a habit can prevent that buildup that’s been dirtying your feet.

Spot Clean Spills Right Away

Don’t let spills sit. Whether it’s a dropped ice cube or a splash of juice, tackle it immediately with the right cleaner for your floor type.

This prevents the spill from attracting more dirt and becoming a bigger problem.

Dry Your Floors Properly

Moisture is not the best thing when it comes to keeping floors spotless.

You’ll want to make sure you’re not just cleaning your floors but drying them thoroughly afterward. Think of it like this: just as you wouldn’t put away dishes while they’re still wet, don’t leave your floors damp.

This gives any lingering dirt a chance to cling to your floors, leading to those grimy footprints.

After mopping, take a dry mop or towel and give the floor a good once-over to soak up extra moisture.

Steam Your Way to Spotlessness

Now, if you really want to get your floors sparkling, it’s time to steam things up!

It’s all about the heat and moisture working together to gently lift and remove residue that might be causing the black feet issue.

Just remember, it might take a few sessions to tackle all that grime. Be patient, it’s worth the effort!

Change Your Water And Keep It Cleaner

Remember, dirty mop water equals dirty floors.

Frequently change the water as you clean, so you’re not just moving dirt around. With clean water, your mop is much more effective, and your floors will show the results.

If you’re considering a robot mop to keep your floors in top shape, you might wonder if you can use any cleaning solution with it. The right cleaner will ensure your floors are spotless without leaving any residue.

Trial With Gentle Cleaners

Start by testing out mild cleaners. A solution of water and vinegar can often do the trick. Just apply it to a small area first to ensure it’s effective.

Vinegar is known for its natural cleansing properties and might just be the fix you need.

If vinegar doesn’t solve the issue, try a few drops of Dawn dish soap in water. It’s gentle, but it’s also effective at cutting through grease and grime.

For persistent marks, you can try Windex. It’s not only for glass – it can work wonders on floors, too, leaving them shiny and residue-free.

Once you’ve found the cleaner that does the job, use it consistently for the best results. This will help keep your floors clean on an ongoing basis, which in turn will keep your feet free from black residue.

Approach Ammonia with Caution

If these solutions don’t work, you might consider using ammonia. It’s a strong cleaner that can tackle waxy buildups.

Remember, use ammonia in a diluted form and only as a last resort. Ventilate the area well and protect your hands with gloves when using it.

Caution: If you have no-wax floors, skip the ammonia. It’s too harsh and can damage this floor type over time.

For tile and vinyl floors, though, a blend of a cup of ammonia with half a gallon of water can effectively clean and refresh even the most neglected tiles.

How To Prevent My Feet From Getting Black From My Floor?

  1. Protect your feet from dirt by wearing house slippers.
  2. Regularly sweep your floors to remove loose debris.
  3. Use a vacuum for a deeper clean, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
  4. Change out old floor mats for new ones to reduce dirt transfer.
  5. Go over your floors with a damp mop to pick up any remaining debris.
  6. Place doormats at all entrances to catch dirt from shoes at the door.

How Often Should I Clean My Floor?

Floor TypeRegular CleaningDeep Cleaning
WoodWeekly with a damp mop in high-traffic areasEvery 1-2 months
HardwoodEvery few days sweeping or dusting, weekly vacuumingEvery 1-2 months
TileTwice a week sweeping or vacuumingAs needed, when grout looks dingy
LaminateBi-weeklyMonthly, or more often with pets/shoes indoors

Before You Leave: A Parting Gift of Wisdom

There you have it. Floors can be tough and they require some love to stay clean.

Ignoring the little signs and skipping on the deep clean every now and then can lead to an unexpected foot makeover.

Now that we’ve covered the exact reasons and solutions to dirty floors, you can step towards cleaner floors and cleaner feet.

Over the past few years, I’ve owned several different shapes of robot vacuums—Circular, square, and d-shaped. After researching, I finally concluded why manufacturers prefer to sell circular robot vacuums.

Key Takeaways:

Robot vacuums are typically round for a few reasons. One of the main reasons is that a round shape allows the vacuum to navigate corners and tight spaces easily. It can turn in place and move around furniture easily, which is useful for cleaning a room efficiently.

Circular Robot Vacuums Explained

Another reason is that a round shape is simple and relatively easy to manufacture. It has fewer edges and corners compared to a rectangular or square shape, which means there are fewer parts and less assembly required. This can make the vacuum cheaper to produce and more reliable.

Additionally, a round shape can be more aesthetically pleasing and may be more appealing to consumers. It can also be easier to store and carry than a robot vacuum with a more complex shape.

Overall, the round shape of robot vacuums is a compromise between functionality, manufacturing simplicity, and aesthetics.

How The Shape of Your Robot Vacuum Can Affect Battery Life

One factor is the surface area of the vacuum. A vacuum with a larger surface area may have a more challenging time navigating tight spaces or corners, leading to more battery usage as it works harder to move around and clean effectively.

On the other hand, a smaller, more streamlined vacuum may be able to move more efficiently and use less battery power.

Another factor is the weight of the vacuum. A heavier vacuum may require more energy to move around and lift, which can drain the battery faster.

Are you looking for a robot vacuum but so overwhelmed by all the options? Well, I created a super handy tool to help you pick the right robot vacuum based on your needs. See it here.

Additionally, the type of battery used can also play a role in the vacuum’s battery life. For example, a vacuum with a lithium-ion battery may have a longer battery life than one with a nickel-metal hydride battery.

Overall, the shape of a robot vacuum can have some impact on its battery life, but it’s just one of many factors that can affect the battery performance.

Other factors such as the type of surfaces being cleaned, the frequency of use, and the age of the battery can also influence the battery life.

D-shaped vs. Round Robot Vacuums

D-shaped and round robot vacuums are popular designs for robotic vacuums, and each has its own benefits and drawbacks.

D-shaped vacuums are particularly effective at cleaning along baseboards and in tight spaces. Also, they are more stable and less prone to tipping over, especially when navigating uneven surfaces.

Round robot vacuums, on the other hand, are typically more agile and able to change direction easily and navigate around obstacles. They may also be more adept at maneuvering under furniture. However, they may not be as effective at cleaning along walls and corners as d-shaped vacuums.

Which is Better For Corners?

D-shaped robot vacuums are designed with a flat edge along one side, which allows them to easily reach into corners and along walls.

Ultimately, the choice between a d-shaped and round robot vacuum will depend on your specific cleaning needs and preferences. If you have a lot of corners and tight spaces in your home that need to be cleaned, a d-shaped vacuum might be a better choice.

If you have a lot of open floor space and need a vacuum that can easily navigate around furniture, a round vacuum might be a better fit.

Due to damaging past cleaning equipment, I’ve become cautious about using off-brand cleaning products. The first thing I did when I purchased my Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, I researched the best safe cleaning products I could use with it.

You should always adhere to using a cleaning solution specifically designed for your brand of robot mop. Standard cleaning solutions can be too harsh to use in a robot mop and can cause damage and potentially void your warranty.

Check your mop’s manual or contact the manufacturer to find the best cleaning solution for your model. Alternatively, plain water in a robot mop works well if you don’t need to disinfect your floors. Keep reading to learn more!

What Cleaning Solution Can You Use With Robot Mops?

Below are some brands and the cleaning solutions they recommend using.

Robot Vacuum BrandsRecommended Cleaning Solutions
RoborockOfficial Roborock Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner (Amazon)
EcovacsDeebot Cleaning Solution (Amazon)
iRobotBona Hardwood Floor Cleaner, Bona Hard Surface Floor Cleaners (Amazon)
Bissell SpinWaveBISSELL MultiSurface Floor Cleaning Formula (Amazon)

Generally, most robot vacuum manufacturers don’t recommend using anything other than their brand’s cleaning solution or water.

The reason is that a non-branded cleaning solution may not consider that it will be used with a robot mop. So their solutions can create corrosion or clogging issues in the robot vacuums over time.

If you use non-branded cleaning solutions, you could also risk voiding the device’s warranty.

Here’s why it might be time to upgrade your robot vacuum or mop:

Robot vacuums have gone through another technological advancement. The latest robot vacuums in the market will do more than vacuum. They can now mop, empty themselves, and even clean their own mopping pad. It has been a game-changer in my household!

Time is the most valuable resource and the one thing you cannot buy. Every second that goes by will never be seen again! The more autonomous robot vacuums are, the more time you can spend doing the things you love.

Best Hand-Free Robot Vacuums in the market

Best Hand-Free Robot Vacuums under $1000

Given that robot vacuums are such an expensive product, it wouldn’t be a great idea to take the risk and damage them by using a non-branded cleaning solution.

You can also find some homemade solutions online and try them. But the thing is, even homemade solutions may cause damage to your mop.

Eventually, your high-priced robot mop’s rubber and plastic components may degrade and fail prematurely.

There is a reason the manufacturer urges you not to add any kind of cleaner other than the ones specifically made for their brand’s product or plain water.

3 Common Home Cleaning Products you’re Probably Tempted to use

Can You Use Bleach In A Robot Mop?

Bleach is a powerful chemical disinfectant that can effectively kill germs; however, it is unsuitable for robot mops.

Bleach is a corrosive substance that can cause damage to the delicate electronic components of robot mops, leading to a shorter lifespan.

Additionally, bleach is a caustic substance and can cause staining on surfaces if not used carefully, making it unsuitable for robot mops.

So, it is best to use cleaning solutions specifically designed for robot mops instead of bleach.

In a recent article that can be read here, I talk about how the corrosive nature of bleach can even destroy a simple plastic spray bottle.

Can You Use Pine Sol In A Robot Mop?

Pine Sol is not recommended for use with a robot mop because it can corrode the inner workings of the robot mop.

It is a strong cleaner and could potentially damage the robot mop or cause it to malfunction. It can also leave a sticky residue that can interfere with the robot’s sensors and cause them to malfunction.

Can You Use Vinegar In Robot Mop?

There is acidity in vinegar. So the robot vacuum’s pump and the tank will wear down over time by its usage. Likewise, using vinegar in devices with rubber gaskets will destroy the gaskets.

Also, gradually, vinegar will chip away at the glue that secures the treads to the wheels. Considering all of this, using vinegar is also not suggested.

Are Cleaning Solutions Necessary For Mopping Floors?

Cleaning solutions are essential for mopping floors since they help to effectively remove dirt and bacteria.

A cleaning solution helps lift and dissolve the dirt, making it easier to mop up the surface.

Cleaning solutions also help to disinfect the floor, killing any germs that may be present on the surface. This helps to keep the floor clean and hygienic, making it safe for everyone who uses it.

Cleaning solutions combine chemicals such as detergents, disinfectants, and surfactants. Each of these chemicals has a different role in the cleaning process.

Detergents break down dirt and oils; surfactants trap and remove dirt; disinfectants kill germs. All three combined within a cleaning solution effectively clean and disinfect your floors.

When it comes to killing germs, the disinfectant in the cleaning solution is the most essential ingredient.

Disinfectants are typically acids, bases, or oxidizers. Acids break down the cell walls of bacteria, bases disrupt the proteins inside the cell, and oxidizers cause cell death by breaking down the cell wall.

When the cleaning solution is applied to the floor, the disinfectant kills the germs and bacteria on contact. Additionally, cleaning solutions can add a pleasant scent to the room, making it more pleasant and inviting.

Keeping your floors clean and germ-free is an important part of maintaining a healthy home, and cleaning solutions are a great way to do it. But using only water in a robot mop has its own benefits.

The Advantage Of Using A Robot Mop With Water Only

  • There are no risks of affecting the warranty of the device.
  • Water is safe for the device and provides a decent level of cleaning on most floors.

Most robot mops use water or their unique mix for mopping. Almost all products, from Roborock to Ecovacs, advise against using any additional cleaning solutions.

We understand that specialist cleaning solutions for robot mops might become expensive over time. And so, it’s reasonable to be curious about alternate cleaning options.

But we do not encourage using anything other than simple water. And that’s because there are risks of damaging your robot vacuum over time using homemade or other non-brand-specific cleaning solutions.

What’s the solution? The easiest way to avoid this issue is to disinfect your floors separately once the robot vacuum has finished. This will diminish automation, but it is the only way to solve the issue.

Key Takeaways:
Using non-branded cleaning solutions can potentially damage your mopping device and cause warranty issues. Roborock offers an official multi-surface floor cleaner that is compatible with all their vacuums with mopping ability. It should be diluted 1:300, or 1 part Roborock floor cleaner to 300 parts water.

I know it’s very tempting to grab any standard cleaning product and use it in your Roborock, but STOP, You have to hear what I have to say about other cleaning solutions first.

Unfortunately, Roborock does not recommend using alternative cleaning solutions. The safe option is to use the Roborock branded cleaning solution or mop your floors separately. If you’re wondering whether robot vacuums are worth the money, especially with these limitations, we’ve got you covered.

Cleaners that produce suds may cause the mopping feature to malfunction.

After reading the Q&A section on Amazon, a Roborock support agent suggested to a user to try the other cleaning solution, and if there is an issue, stop using the solution and clean out the tank with water. However, they did suggest not using other cleaning solutions at the start of their answer.

You may be tempted to use solutions like vinegar, a lemon juice mixture, or even baking soda. If you really want to use your favorite cleaner, I would make sure not to use anything that is acidic, produces suds, and to make sure to dilute it with water.

That said, I would still be inclined to use a branded cleaning solution just to be safe. Regardless of what an agent said on Amazon, you wouldn’t want to run into any warranty issues when dealing with the manufacturer.

Here’s why it might be time to upgrade your robot vacuum:

Robot vacuums have gone through another technological advancement. The latest robot vacuums in the market can vacuum, mop, empty themselves, and even clean their own mopping pad. It has been a game-changer in my household!

Time is the most valuable resource and the one thing you cannot buy. Every second that goes by will never be seen again! The more autonomous robot vacuums are, the more time you can spend doing the things you love.

Can You Put Vinegar In Your Roborock?

Generally, using vinegar in a Roborock is not recommended.

While vinegar is a natural cleaning agent that can effectively clean and deodorize surfaces, it is typically too acidic for a robot mop.

Most robot mops, including the Roborock, are designed to be used without any addition of any cleaning solutions. Or, at the most, using water or branded cleaning solutions. If you’re concerned about the impact of robot vacuums on your furniture, you might want to stick to the recommended cleaning solutions.

Using a high concentration of vinegar or other acidic cleaning agents can cause the mop to become clogged or malfunction and dull the finish of the floors over time.

Can You Put Baking Soda In a Roborock?

While baking soda can be a useful cleaning agent, it can also be abrasive and may damage the internal parts of your robot vac.

If you want to use baking soda as a deodorizing agent, you can sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the carpet before vacuuming.

The baking soda will absorb odors as the robot vac mops and cleans. Just be sure to use a small amount of baking soda, as too much can be difficult to clean up and may leave a residue on your floor.

Can You Put Soap In Roborock?

Putting soap or soppy solution inside any Roborock product is generally not recommended. Soppy solutions can produce suds and cause your device to malfunction.

Benefits Of Using Just Water in Your Roborock:

Using just water in the water tank of a Roborock robot vac can have several benefits:

  1. Easier to maintain: The water tank is easy to refill and empty, and the Roborock filters can be easily rinsed and reused, making maintenance quick and hassle-free.
  2. Eco-friendly: Using just water in the Roborock can be more environmentally friendly than using disposable cleaning products, as it reduces the amount of waste generated.
  3. No white haze on the floor: Some cleaners can give your floors a hazy look, and it may take several passes over it with fresh water to give it a shine.

Can You Disinfect Floors With A Roborock?

Yes, you can disinfect floors with a Roborock, and that is by using the Roborock brand cleaning solution.

Here’s the official Roborock Multi-Surface Cleaning Solution available on Amazon.

Wrapping Up

In short, you can use either water or the official cleaning solution (OMO) recommended by Roborock. Other than that, using any other non-branded cleaning solution in your Roborock robot mop is not a good idea.

Finally, it’s also essential to take care of the cleaning pads of your Roborock robot vac.

The frequency with which you should change the cleaning pads in your Roborock robot vac will depend on various factors, including the type of cleaning pads you are using, the condition of your floors, and the amount of use the robot vac gets.

In general, changing the cleaning pads on your Roborock robot vacuum every 1-3 months or when they become excessively dirty or worn is recommended.

Recommended Read:

No matter which robot vacuum you own, there will always be a bit of maintenance to be done to keep it in tip-top working order. Check out this general guide on how to clean and maintain robot vacuums here.

Some signs that it may be time to change the cleaning pads include the following:

  • The pads are visibly soiled or dirty
  • The pads are no longer able to effectively pick up dirt and debris
  • The pads are tearing or falling apart
  • The vacuum is not cleaning as effectively as it should

If you are using a high-quality set of cleaning pads, they may last longer than the recommended 1-3 month period. However, it is still important to regularly check the condition of the pads and replace them as needed to ensure that your vacuum is functioning at its best.

It is also a good idea to periodically clean the cleaning pads to remove any built-up dirt and debris. This can be done by gently hand-washing the pads with warm water and a mild detergent or running them through the washing machine on a gentle cycle.

You can get the new Roborock cleaning pads replacement parts on sites like Amazon, eBay, and the official site of Roborock.

Should you buy a robot vacuum with a mapping feature or not? It’s first essential to understand the difference between both types of robot vacuums.

Key Takeaways:
The main distinction between robot vacuums with mapping and without mapping features is their cleaning efficiency. Usually, robot vacuums that use mapping features are more efficient in cleaning spaces, but they are relatively more expensive than the ones that don’t use the mapping feature.

Read on to learn more about the difference between both types of robot vacuums and more.

Robot Vacuum Random vs. Mapped Navigation

1.Only relies on basic sensors like collision and cliff sensors.Uses advanced technologies like VSLAM (optical navigation system) and LIDAR (laser navigation system).
2.Robot vacuums using this technology are generally available at low budget.Robot vacuums using this technology usually come at a higher price point.
3.It takes relatively longer to clean the same area.Takes relatively less time to clean the same area.
4.It can damage the furniture over time as it constantly collides with them. These robot vacuums generally don’t bump into objects and hence have less chance of damage.
5.Improper space cleaning occurs as open areas tend to get cleaned more than the corners and other areas where objects are present.Proper and efficient space cleaning happens since the robot vacuums and maps the area as it cleans and moves around systematically.

Is Mapping Necessary For A Robot Vacuum?

Mapping features are not necessary for a robot vacuum. But if you have the budget to buy higher-end robot vacuums with advanced mapping technologies, then it’s definitely worth the investment.

Here are the pros and cons of robot vacuums with mapping capabilities:

ProsCons
Better and more efficient cleaningRelatively Expensive
Shorter runtime
Less damage to surroundings

Here’s why it might be time to upgrade your robot vacuum:

How Do Robot Vacuums Navigate?

Just like people, a vacuum needs to avoid bumping into things while it cleans a room. Humans move around and navigate any area using sense organs and related inputs.

The robot vacuum serves the same purpose but receives data from various sensors. Due to their built-in sensors, they can effectively avoid danger, clean most effectively, and find their way to unexplored areas.

The particular sensors utilized in a given robot vacuum will vary according to the company that made it.

But in general, the robot can use this real-time data to initiate a series of predetermined responses, allowing it to function autonomously and make judgments at the moment.

The small shape of the robot cleaner allows them to access even the tiniest crevices under various items. In addition, sensors let them navigate through areas they can’t physically access and might otherwise accidentally run into.

There are mainly two types of robot vacuums in terms of navigation: One that doesn’t use mapping features and one that uses the mapping feature. So let’s learn more about them.

#1. Robot Vacuums That Work Without Mapping

Robot vacuums that don’t use mapping features rely on multiple basic sensors to determine their cleaning route.

The bumper of a robot vacuum cleaner is often equipped with sensors to detect and steer around obstacles, including furniture legs, couches, and other household items.

As soon as the robot vacuum’s sensors detect a roadblock, it will automatically reroute itself around it. Then, the robot vacuum will spin and advance until the system locates an unobstructed route.

The robot cleaner’s movement is controlled by a bumper that presses against a surface. If a vacuum cleaner, for instance, encounters an obstacle on its left bumper, it will shift to the right. In addition, robot vacuums include a safety feature called a cliff sensor.

Robot vacuums are equipped with sensors that alert them as they approach an incline like a step’s edge.

Related Read: Will Robot Vacuums Go Up Or Down Ramps To Clean?

The cleaner has cliff sensors at its base. In addition, the cleaner regularly sends infrared signals to the floor to determine the exact distance between them.

The vacuum will know it has reached stairs or a decline in elevation if the signal does not immediately return.

Some high-end robotic vacuums include extra wall and wheel sensors in addition to the standard obstacle and cliff sensors. Robot cleaners may use this feature to locate walls and straight lines, which has the same name as the ability it describes.

Because of these sensors, the vacuum can also clean the floor’s edge without bumping against the wall. These sensors are located on the sides of the cleaner to prevent it from hitting the wall while equally picking up dirt from tight corners.

The robot vacuums equipped with mapping capabilities also use these sensors to locate new places in need of cleaning.

Robot vacuums include wheel-mounted sensors that record wheel rotational speeds and angular velocities to assess travel lengths and directional changes.

With the help of these sensors, the cleaners will always know exactly where they are.

#2. Robot Vacuums That Work With Mapping:

The ability to map and navigate is often reserved for more sophisticated robots. For example, some high-end versions of robot vacuums use laser sensors to detect obstacles in the dark.

  • VSLAM: These robot vacuums are equipped with a camera that can photograph obstacles such as walls, doors, and furniture.
  • LIDAR: The robot vacuum uses lasers to detect its distances to certain objects.

Both are quite effective, with data from each contributing to a complete picture of the space.

Although the mapping isn’t strictly required, it does provide some useful advantages.

With a blueprint in hand, a robot vacuum can plot out the most effective path for cleaning. Because of these mapping features, these robot vacuums follow a straight path, whereas other robots seem to move randomly.

Which Robot Vacuum Has The Best Mapping Feature?

Robot vacuums that use VSLAM, and LIDAR, technologies have the best mapping capabilities. LIDAR robot vacuums are more advanced than VSLAM since they use laser light to map and navigate and can even operate in complete darkness.

Are you looking to deal with pet smells in your home by using an Air Purifier? But you’re probably wondering whether it would even do anything. Before making your final purchase decision, it’s important to understand how the air purifier functions in fighting pet odor.

Key Takeaways:

The Homedics Total Clean Pet Plus 5-in-1 air purifier works by letting the air pass through 5 stages of filtration, including pre-filter, True HEPA filter, active carbon filter, UV light, and the ionizer. So whether you have dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, or other animals, the active carbon layer helps remove pet odor from the air.

Keep reading as we take a closer look at the working process of this Total Clean Pet Plus air purifier and more.

How Does Homedics Total Clean Pet Plus 5-in-1 Fight Pet Odor?

The air goes through 5 stages of filtration through this Total clean pet plus air purifier:

No.StagesDescription
1.Pre-FilterThe pre-filter layer filters out large particles like pet hair and dander.
2.True HEPA FiltrationAll the super tiny microparticles (~ 0.3 microns size particles) are filtered out in this filtration layer.
3.Carbon Layer Filtration:The Pet Plus air purifier uses an active carbon layer to filter out unwanted household and pet smells.
4.UV Light ActionAfter three layers, air passes through UV light, by which around 99.99% of mold, bacteria, and fungi are destroyed from the air.
5.IonizerThere is also an ionizer present in the filter that generates a negative charge and discards unwanted particles from the air.

So, after all these processes, the air fills the room with freshness.

✔ 360-DEGREE HEPA FILTRATION: Remove up to 99.9% of irritants and allergens up to 0.3 microns. PetPlus odor filter helps eliminate pet and household odor.
✔ ULTIMATE CLEAN: Powerful UV-C light reduces up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. Reduce household allergens, odors, smoke, dander, and more.

How Does The TRUE HEPA Filtration System Help In Purifying Air?

The air purifier uses the True HEPA Filtration system. It is premium-level filtration used in air purifiers.

“HEPA = High-Efficiency Particulate Air [Filter].”

As per epa.gov (on paper), HEPA filters have the capability of removing almost 99.97% of airborne allergens such as pollens, bacteria, or dust.

And this Total Pet Plus air purifier doesn’t simply use a HEPA Filtration system, but it uses the TRUE HEPA filtration system – which means better and more efficient air purification.

In the 1940s, the Department of Energy (DOE) created a metric for measuring the purity of the air called high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA), the name for a specific kind of air filter.

The Department of Energy (DOE) specifies that HEPA filters can trap up to 99.97% airborne particles measuring 0.3 microns (m). In both business and domestic settings, HEPA filters are the standard.

This is in part because it efficiently captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, making it suitable for use in both commercial and domestic settings.

That said, only a True HEPA filtration device or filter reaches the 99.97% efficiency required by the Department of Energy’s (DOE) standard for HEPA filtration.

To be classified as True HEPA, a filter must be confirmed as effective in removing 99.97 percent of airborne particles, as defined by the Department of Energy.

Although the filter may still be able to catch a significant fraction of particles as small as 0.3 microns, it cannot claim compliance with DOE HEPA criteria until it is validated as a True HEPA.

So rest assured, you can get top-level air purification with this Total Pet Plus air purifier because of the True HEPA Filtration system.

Although this purifier was designed with pets in mind, its core ability is to filter the air, which helps improve air quality overall. So food smells will also be sucked up. Things like opening windows or turning on vents will help with the process. Here are three guides to help freshen up your home a bit more.

How Does The Activated Carbon Layer Work?

The feature that makes Pet Plus 5 in 1 effective in combating the odd pet odors is its active carbon filtration layer.

Because of its adsorption properties, activated carbon may be used to get rid of unpleasant smells. In addition, due to its high surface area, activated carbon from coal is a powerful adsorbent.

The goal of the activation process is to increase the surface area of the carbon relative to its mass.

Activated carbon’s ability to absorb molecules by drawing them into its interior and keeping them at its surface makes it a powerful tool for eliminating unpleasant odors.

UV Light Takes Care Of The Bacteria And Other Minute Particles

Bacteria, viruses, mildew, and mold are all killed or severely damaged by ultraviolet light, making it a useful sterilizer.

DNA and RNA are the genetic blueprints that direct all creatures’ development, behavior, and reproduction. Ultraviolet (UV) light generates electromagnetic radiation that may impair bacteria’ capacity to multiply and inactivate germs via mutations and/or cell death.

My son is fascinated with the light and buttons.

Inducing photochemical reactions in microorganisms’ nucleic acids, ultraviolet (UV) light’s electromagnetic energy may effectively halt their reproductive capacity.

Ionizer – An Additional Layer Of Filtration To Combat Airborne Particles

Low indoor air quality may be caused by particles in the air, such as dust, pollutants, and bacteria. This may adversely impact your respiratory system and, in the long run, your health.

Conditions like asthma might also become more severe. You may be wondering whether ionizers are effective for indoor cleansing air.

Ionizers are machines that use negative ions to get rid of dust and other particles in the air.

An air ionizer is a device used to aid in the collection and settling of airborne dust and other particles. You may better comprehend the function of an air ionizer if one is familiar with the nature of air ions.

There are charged molecules in the air, and they’re called ions. They’re just invisible molecules floating about in the air.

A negative ion is a molecule that has received an electron, whereas a positive ion is one that has lost one. Air ionizers are a kind of air purifier accessory that generates and releases negative ions into the air.

The negative ions bind to the little particles. This imparts an electrostatic charge onto the particles, causing them to coagulate upon impact with solid surfaces (such as those found on floors, walls, tables, etc.). As a result, dust may be collected after it has settled on a surface.

Who Should Use Homedics Total Clean Pet Plus 5-in-1 Air Purifier?

  • If you have dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, or other animals, this Air purifier is a no-brainer because it purifies the air efficiently.
  • If you have allergic roommates sensitive to airborne particles, investing in an air purifier like this can be helpful.
  • If you want to experience cleaner and fresh air every time you enter your room.

I really wanted to push this thing to its limits. I have a family member with two rabbits, so I left the unit running at her house for 3 days to see if there was any improvement. I have to state that this test is far from scientific, and the space where it sat was double the size of the recommended air purifying square footage. It was placed beside the rabbit’s cage, we put a few drops of lavender oil and left it to do its thing. I’m happy to report after the 3 days, she did notice a difference in the air quality.

When you have dogs, baseboards become a magnet for fur. Until the day robot vacuums become advanced enough to clean the whole baseboard, here is an excellent resource on how to keep baseboards clean with dogs.

Other Ways To Remove Pet Odor In The Home:

Homedics Total Clean Pet Plus is not the only option you can use in fighting against pet odor and purifying. Here are some additional tips you can follow to combat pet odor:

  1. Ensure you regularly clean the objects that your pet uses daily.
  2. You can use vinegar mixed with water in a spray bottle on floors and other areas.
  3. Sweep regularly to ensure no pet hairs or mess is left on the floor.
  4. Don’t forget to vacuum regularly to eliminate the chances of pet hair and dirt hanging around.

Smells don’t just affect our homes, they can also make their way into our vehicles. We created a guide to help you deal with car odors before they get out of control. Check out our car odor-busting guide here.

So you can do the above-mentioned daily rituals of cleanliness. But to fight off pet odor and other dust particles in the air, investing in an air purifier like Homedics can also be worthwhile.

Cost And Maintenance:

On average, air purifiers cost anywhere from $200 – $900. However, on the official site of Homedics, the cost of the Homedics Total Clean Pet Plus 5-in-1 air purifier is only around $139.99. So considering that the cost of this air purifier is not too much.

Air purifiers effectively reduce airborne contaminants, but they may be costly to run over time due to the need to keep them on constantly and the expense of replacing the filters twice a year.

Although Total Clean Pet Plus’s various filter layers contribute to its effective air purification, they also contribute added cost in the long due to the frequency with which you must replace them.

Some odor-removal filters, made of activated carbon in general, must be changed as often as every three months and may cost as much as $50 for each unit. Those costs are in addition to the primary filters, which may cost anywhere from $20 to $200.

You should consider the expense and upkeep of an air purifier before buying one. However, if you value clean air free from unpleasant pet odors, the necessary upkeep and periodic replacements may be worthwhile.

My son is fascinated with the light and buttons.

Consumables

The list of consumables for this air purifier includes:

  • True HEPA Filter
  • Activated Carbon Filter

Mainly, you have to replace the filters periodically. However, since these air purifiers don’t have many bells and whistles, you don’t have to worry about replacing many parts.

Replacement Parts

You can get replacement parts like the (replacement filter) for this Total Clean Pet Plus Air Purifier easily available on Amazon. Also, the replacement filters are available on the official website of Homedics. So you don’t have to worry about replacing those parts.

Final Verdict

If you are allergic to pet dander, pollen, dust, or other airborne particles and want a nice, clean sleep, then Homedics total clean pet plus 5-in-1 is a worthwhile air purifier you can get.

Key items to look for before buying a self-emptying robot vacuum:

  • Easy to obtain parts and consumables: Robot vacs are getting more advance and more costly to own, so before I invest in one, I like to check Amazon for replacement parts.
  • Return to base to wash cleaning pad: If you’re buying a robot vacuum that also has mopping make sure it has the ability to return to the base to wash its cleaning pad. Over the several years of owning robot mops, I’ve witnessed them leave a white haze on the floor if the mopping pad is not cleaned frequently.
  • Long-lasting battery: This is a vital feature. If your bot vac cant store enough juice to complete the job, it will need to make several trips to the base to charge. This extended cleaning time can be annoying.
  • Strong suction power: If you have carpet in your home, good suction power is essential. For a robo vac to pull all the embedded debris out of your carpet, it will need good suction power.

Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra: Best Hands-Off Solution

Front view of Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra in front of a White Background

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra

Find price at Amazon
The Roborock S7 is one of the smartest robot mopping and vacuuming combos in the market. It provides an extremely convenient, totally hands-free cleaning experience. Using the Empty Wash Fill Dock, you get automatic dust emptying, mop washing, and robot water tank refilling. The dock even cleans itself too.

The Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra is the best option when it comes to one of the best self-emptying vacuum cleaners. With an auto mop washing and self-empty/self-refill system, it gives you the best hands-off cleaning experience for your home.

I have to say I’m a bit biased when It comes to the Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra. This robot vac is as good as it gets when it comes to a hands-off cleaning solution. The price tag does reflect its feature-rich capabilities.

Key Features:

  • It has a mapping and programming feature that keeps track of its cleaning.
  • mop washing and self-empty/self-refill system
  • You can adjust the mopping and vacuuming power according to your requirements.
  • It comes with app connectivity which is easy to navigate.
  • It has good suction (5100 Pa) and a smart AI obstacle avoidance feature.
  • Zone cleaning, I can send the robot vac to select areas in my home without doing a full clean.
  • The smart object avoidance will navigate around items left on the floor.

What I Like:

The first thing I like the most about this robot vacuum is that it will clean all surfaces without any intervention. If it detects carpet when it’s vacuuming and mopping your hardwood floors, it will lift its mopping pad and just vacuum the carpet. It works well on all floors, not just hardwood floors, making it to the top of my list. It will mop and clean the hardwood floors gently without getting stuck.

Whether you have kids or pets that make the hardwood floors dirty, just set up the scheduled cleaning, and it will do its job without any hassle.

The next best thing about this robot vacuum is the long battery life. So even if you want to deploy this robot vacuum in a big room, it should be able to do its job flawlessly.

This robot vacuum cleans and mops at the same time. Moreover, it returns to the base to wash the cleaning pad every 250 – 350 sqft (which you can adjust) and thus cleans, staying fresh during the entire cycle, and does not leave a white haze on floors.

What I Didn’t Like:

The smart AI object avoidance does not always detect cords on the floor. But that said, let’s face it, no robot vacuum can give you the ideal results 100% of the time.

Another small thing I noticed is that the dustbin that comes with the robot vacuum includes a packet that needs to be changed. I wish Roborock would have considered this aspect and would have included a reusable dustbin.

This is not really a dislike but more of a wishlist item. I wish it came with an area to connect a waterline and drain line so I wouldn’t have to keep filling and emptying the water containers. This would be a game-changer!

Who Should Get This Product?

If you want to keep your hardwood floors pretty much spotless and free from dirt and paw prints, – the Roborock S7 Max Ultra is the perfect match for you. The Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra is pretty much the Rolls-Rolls-Royce of robot vacuums, and the closes thing to a total hand-off solution.

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni: Runner Up

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni

Find price at Amazon
All-IN-ONE OMNI STATION. A first in the industry. After vacuuming, your DEEBOT returns to the station and automatically empties the dustbin providing a hand-free solution. After mopping, it automatically washes the mop heads and dries them with hot air. Experience a whole new level of freedom from cleaning.

Another self-emptying robot vacuum that is relatively a bit less costly but still has some great features is the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni.

Key Features:

  • It has a dedicated voice assistant.
  • AI object avoidance technology is present.
  • It also comes with a security camera.
  • Its maximum suction power is 5000 Pa, and comes with a 3L dust bag.

What I Like:

One of the best things about this robot vacuum is its ease of use and maintenance. Secondly, the mobile app is also quite simple to connect, and the overall setup process is easy.

Moreover, the mapping feature of this robot vacuum works great. Since it also has a camera, you can see the house’s condition anytime over the internet.

What I Didn’t Like:

If you have a mixture of carpet, hardwood, and other hard surface floorings, it will not go over the carpet when it’s in mopping mode.

The base station feels a bit larger and considerably heavy. And as with the previous model, price is still a concern because this robot vacuum is also one of the top-end models on the market.

Who Should Get This Product?

Comparing this Ecovacs robot vacuum model with the Roborock, the differences are not that significant. For instance, the Roborock has a suction power of 5100 Pa, while the Ecovacs Deebot has a suction power of 5000 Pa.

In terms of battery life, there is a tie between both robot vacuums. Also, both of them are feature loaded with self-emptying functionality, a self-cleaning mop, a camera, and more.

But Roborock does have more features, like a bigger built-in water tank and lifting technology that allows better performance around carpets. So overall, if you have the budget, Roborock is undoubtedly the right choice, and a robot vacuum that is worth the price

But note that Ecovacs has a better overall design and looks than the Roborock. Also, it’s slightly less costly than Roborock.

Dreametech W10 Robot: Budget Option

Dreametech W10 Ultra

Find price at Amazon
Meet the Dreametech W10: the Swiss Army knife of clean, effortlessly sweeping, mopping, washing, and drying your floors with 4000Pa of suction power. Alexa-compatible and pet-hair savvy, it’s the smart home hero your floors have been waiting for.

The Dreamtech W10 Robot is an intelligent self-emptying robot vacuum that costs less but offers mopping and vacuuming functionality and other features.

Key Features:

  • It has 4000 Pa suction power and comes with a 6400 mAh battery.
  • It has a unique D-shape, enabling more efficient cleaning of the corners.
  • It also has an obstacle avoidance feature and is compatible with Alexa.
  • And it is equipped with a four-liter large clean sewage tank.

What I Like:

The cool and sleek design that can add a modern touch to any setting is the first thing I like about it. The mapping feature also works quickly.

Also, it’s simple to empty the dust canister. Although the vacuum’s suction power is not as great as the previous two models we saw earlier; it’s still decent enough to pick up dust particles and dirt from hardwood floors and carpets.

What I Didn’t Like:

It’s a bit loud, especially when pad cleaning occurs, and you may not enjoy it at times. Also, the mopping pad could have been better, but overall, it does its job without any major issues.

Who Should Get This Product?

If you have a tight budget and are looking for a self-cleaning robot vacuum that mops and vacuums simultaneously, this product is the right pick for you.

Ah, the Bissell Crosswave—a modern marvel or just another pretty face in your cleaning closet? If you’ve ever stared at your floors, juggling a traditional vacuum, a mop, and perhaps a glass of wine, you’ve probably wondered: ‘Is this gadget the superhero my chores need?’ We get it; skepticism is your middle name.

But before you dismiss this multitasker as a mere jack-of-all-trades, let’s delve into the nitty-gritty. Can the Bissell Crosswave actually replace your trusty vacuum? Buckle up, floor enthusiasts; we’re about to take a ride on the clean side.

Key Takeaways:

As a general rule, Bissell CrossWave is not specifically made for using it only as a vacuum – it is suitable for mopping and vacuuming simultaneously. However, it does work as effectively as most other brands of vacuums, especially on hard floors.

Keep reading to learn whether you can use Bissell CrossWave on the carpet and what models offer the best vacuuming solution.

Can I Vacuum Carpet With My Bissell Crosswave?

You can use Bissell CrossWave to vacuum the carpet, and it will remove smells and loose dirt from the surface. However, it doesn’t outcompete traditional standalone vacuums when it comes to deep cleaning carpets.

Watch this video that begins exactly at the timestamp when the host tests the performance of Bissell Crosswave on the carpet.

Bissell CrossWave is marketed as a multi-surface cleaner that can work on different floors, such as hardwood floors and area rugs. (Learn more about the types of flooring where you can use Bissell Crosswave in this guide)

But with carpets, Bissell Carpets don’t perform that well.

While using this multipurpose vacuum on the carpet, you’ll have to apply a bit more pressure than usual.

So if you do the carpet cleaning only once in a while, this tool can be okay. However, it does clean the scattered dirt and debris on your carpet surface.

That said, it is not the ideal choice for deep cleaning your carpet or for frequent use.

Using Bissell CrossWave for Vacuuming

Even though Bissell Crosswave is not specifically made for dry vacuuming, you can use the feature individually. And there’s not much complexity involved.

Leave the water tank of the Bissell Crosswave empty and use the vacuum as you normally would.

Which Bissell CrossWave Model Works Best as a Vacuum?

Bissell CrossWave offers a variety of models, and although they have many similarities, each one is suitable for different tasks.

Some Bissell CrossWave models are Cordless Max, All-in-One, Pet Pro, and X7 Cordless Pet Pro. Let’s see a brief overview of each one so you can decide which one will be best for you.

Bissell CrossWave All In One (Best all-around use)

The All-in-One is the most economical and basic CrossWave cleaning system. The All-in-One is perfect for you if you wish to clean without worrying about battery life and prefer to use a corded vacuum.

It’s excellent for cleaning large rooms because of its huge tank and broad cleaning route. Covering a wide area is simple thanks to its broad base of support.

In addition, its small weight makes it easy to move around and transport upstairs.

It doesn’t have a dedicated brush for pet hair, so you may want to look for other options.

Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro (Cost-effective)

Bissell designed the CrossWave Pet Pro to help pet owners with their problems – the brush roll is tailored to pick up pet hair. In addition, it has a trigger sprayer for targeted cleaning.

The CrossWave Pet Pro is based on the design of the All-in-One but with an enhanced brush roll.

The Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro is an excellent choice for cleaning up solid dirt and stains if you have bare floors. It’s not too noisy, doesn’t seem cheap, and is simple to move and store.

However, you can’t convert it into a portable vacuum; thus, clearing messes on furniture and other obstacles to movement is difficult.

There is no way to modify the suction power, and there is no way to adjust the floorhead height either. Thus, cleaning up spills on shag carpeting is not a good choice.

Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max (Best user experience)

The Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max is a cordless version – and it feels similar to the CrossWave Pet Pro hybrid vacuum mop.

The same detergent-dispensing mechanism is used to scrape away set-in stains; however, the more portable cordless design comes at the expense of a weaker suction and brush roll motor, resulting in subpar performance on carpets.

The Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max is an excellent choice when cleaning hardwood floors. It quickly and efficiently removes pet hair and other small and large debris from such surfaces without significantly degrading its suction power as its dustbin fills up.

The mopping feature is very useful for removing stubborn grime and residue. The general construction quality is satisfactory, but it requires periodic cleaning or replacement of several parts, which can mount up over time.

Bissell CrossWave X7 Cordless Pet Pro (Best for vacuuming)

Another great choice for homes with pets is the Bissell CrossWave X7 Cordless Pet Pro. This is, however, the most expensive CrossWave model available.

It can vacuum and mop simultaneously, much like the other versions, making it ideal for quickly cleaning large areas. This cleaning gadget combines a vacuum and a mop, but it also has some unique additions.

You can use the X7 in a “Turbo Pet” setting. It works great on the thick, sticky dirt that often results from pet accidents. This mode ensures a spotless clean by maximizing the cleaning solution and vacuuming power.

It has similar features as the Cordless Max, including a self-cleaning cycle and WiFi connectivity. Imagine a Cordless Max with extra tools for dealing with pet accidents.

Alternative Floor Cleaning Solutions (Hands-Free)

Although the Bissell kicks butt as a floor cleaning solution, I’ve since upgraded to more of a hands-off floor cleaning solution.

Robot vacuums are quickly becoming one of the best hands-off cleaning solutions. I’ve owned several over the years, and I can never go back to something I have to push manually to clean my floors.

Some might call it being lazy, but I call it valuing my time and reallocating my time-savings (the time I would have spent cleaning the floors) to something else. To me, Bissell has always been a trusted source when it comes to cleaning. But did you know Bissell also makes a 2-in-1 Robot mop and vacuum?

There is still a bit of manual intervention when using the above Bissell bot vac.

In my opinion, the holy grail of hands-off floor cleaning is the Roborock S7 MaxV ultra. Don’t let the price shock you, this robot vac is pretty much Rosie from the Jetsons. If you don’t get the reference- Rosie is a cleaning-obsessed robot maid character in a futuristic cartoon.

A few lifesaving features

  • Self-cleaning mop pad
  • Self-emptying dirt bin
  • Scheduled cleaning
  • Zone/spot cleaning (I use this feature every day after I feed my son, love it)
  • Remote cleaning (for the days when you’re not home and you have that unexpected guest drop by)
  • Avoids objects (This thing is amazing at avoiding kid’s toys and animal waste on the floor)
  • Tangle-free vacuum brush roller

Final Verdict

The suction power of the Bissell CrossWave will play a key role. But, in general, all of them can do well on hard floors.

  • If you have the budget to spend extra for a quality item – you can go with the X7 Cordless Pet Pro that comes with the Turbo mode for enhanced suction power. It’s also cordless and has all of the best features.
  • However, if your budget is tight, you can go with the All In One or the Pet Pro model.
